Huntail (Japanese: ハンテール Huntail) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Clamperl via trade with a DeepSeaTooth. It is one of Clamperl's two final forms.

Biology

Physiology

Huntail is a light-blue aquatic Pokémon with a serpentine body. It has orange semi-circle spines running down the length of its back. The tip of Huntail's tail has a slight resemblance to a fish. Huntail's body is dotted with white spots that are bordered by orange rings. Two of these rings are on its face, meant to resemble nostrils. It has a large mouth filled with sharp teeth. Huntail has an orange crest on its head.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Huntail normally attacks with its powerful jaws. Huntail has a strong and sturdy spine which helps it to survive the high levels of water pressure of the depth of the sea where it lives. It also has powerful eyesight.

Like most fully evolved Pokémon, Huntail can learn Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Behavior

Huntail are violent by nature. They use the lure on their tail to attract smaller fish, then attack with their long teeth and swallow the prey whole.

Habitat

Huntail live at the bottom of the oceans, where their eyes can see in the darkness. Because of this they are very rare and hard to find.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Huntail eat fish, luring them with their tail which looks like a fish.

In the anime

Huntail first appeared in The Evolutionary War. In that particular episode a person has to be on Island B to evolve Clamperl into a Huntail.

It also made a cameo appearance in The Relicanth Really Can.

A Huntail appeared in Up Close and Personable!.

Trivia

Origin

It appears to have been based on the gulper eel or viperfish. However, it most closely resembles the rarely seen oarfish, mainly because of its orange-colored crest and fins.

Name origin

Huntail's name seems to be a combination of hunt or 斑点 hanten, speck or fleck, and tail.

In other languages

  • German: Aalabyss
  • French: Serpang - From serpent and anguille (eel).
  • Korean: 헌테일 Huntail
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 獵斑魚 Liè Bān Yú - From its Japanese name. Combination of 獵 (hunt), 斑點 (spots that contrast with the background) and 魚 (fish). Literally "Hunting speckled fish".
