Morrison (Japanese: マサムネ Masamune) is a Pokémon Trainer who is dressed in traditional Japanese attire.

He first appeared in Less is Morrison and he returned to compete in the Ever Grande Conference. He and Ash became friends and they declared themselves as rivals for the tournament.

Morrison has a very spirited personality and he likes to challenge other people to almost everything. Due to this, he always challenges Ash to various events such as Pokémon battles or even a food eating contest. Like Ash, he too is determined and never gives up in battle.

In Choose it or Lose It!, Ash and Morrison battled in the Ever Grande Conference. Morrison was confused and even depressed to battle his new friend; he refused to fight at first, and let two of his Pokémon faint, but when Ash told him he wouldn't be angry at him and that he wanted Morrison to do his best, he battled with full spirit. The battle eventually came down to both Morrison and Ash having one Pokémon left, and in the end he was defeated by Ash.

Main article: Morrison's Metang

Metang is Morrison's main Pokémon. It appeared for the first time as a Beldum in Less is Morrison, where Morrison used it in a battle against Ash's Pikachu, and tied with it. Later in the episode, Morrison used Beldum along with Pikachu to send Team Rocket blasting off.

Morrison later used Beldum during the Hoenn League. He used it to battle against Jump's Electabuzz. The fact that Beldum only knew Take Down, almost caused Morrison to lose. However, in the middle of the battle, Beldum evolved into Metang and defeated Electabuzz with its newly gained Psychic powers.

Morrison later used Metang in his battle against Ash, sending it as his last Pokémon to battle against Ash's Glalie. Despite of a type advantage, Glalie was finally able to defeat Metang with a spinning Headbutt, winning the match for Ash.

Girafarig

Morrison's Girafarig was seen along with Morrison's other Pokémon during their introduction, but its battle skills are not so well known, as it was only briefly seen during Morrison's battle with Ash. As Morrison was unwilling to battle against Ash, he wasn't seen giving Girafarig so much commands to attack, and it was quickly defeated by Ash's Corphish's Crabhammer.

Girafarig's known moves are Light Screen, Tackle and Iron Tail.

Growlithe
Morrison's Growlithe
Debut Saved by the Beldum
Voice actors
Japanese Shin'ichirō Miki
English Maddie Blaustein

Morrison's Growlithe was seen for the first time when Morrison introduced his Pokémon to Ash and company. Later he used it in his double battle with Gavin along with his Gligar. In the battle, Growlithe took Gavin's Marowak as its main target. Despite pulling a good battle, Growlithe was eventually knocked out by Marowak's Bone Club.

Later Morrison sent Growlithe out in his battle with Ash to face Ash's Corphish. Being unwilling to battle with his friend, Morrison just kept Growlithe dodging attacks, but it was quickly knocked out by a Crabhammer.

Growlithe's known moves are Take Down, Flamethrower and Agility.

Swampert

Morrison's Swampert was seen along with other of Morrison's Pokémon as he showed his team for Ash and the others. He later used Swampert in his battle against Ash, sending it against Ash's Corphish. Both Pokémon launched their attacks simultaneously, and hit each other at the same time, and they were both knocked out. Swampert is most likely Morrison's starter Pokémon.

Swampert's known moves are Focus Punch and Hydro Pump.

Steelix

Morrison's Steelix was seen for the first time when Morrison introduced his Pokémon for Ash and friends. In his battle against Ash, Morrison first sent his Steelix out against Ash's Pikachu, which the Iron Snake Pokémon easily defeated. Next Ash called out Torkoal, but despite having a type advantage, the Coal Pokémon was finally knocked out. Ash's next Pokémon was Grovyle, which was too fast for Steelix and finally knocked it out with Leaf Blade.

Steelix's known moves are DragonBreath, Dig and Iron Tail.

Gligar
Morrison's Gligar
Debut Saved by the Beldum
Voice actors
Japanese Katsuyuki Konishi

Morrison's Gligar appeared for the first time when Morrison showed his Pokémon team for Ash and friends. He used it in the next episode in his double battle against Gavin along with his Growlithe. In the battle, Gligar took Gavin's Machamp as its main target and was finally able to finish it. It then battled against Gavin's Marowak and won against it as well.

Later Morrison used Gligar in his battle against Ash. It defeated Ash's Grovyle and tied with Ash's Swellow.

Gligar's known moves are Guillotine, Steel Wing, Iron Tail and Hidden Power.

Trivia

Morrison's party prior to Beldum's evolution
  • Coincidentally, both Morrison's Japanese and English voice actors have also voiced Goku of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. The Brazilian voice actor also voiced a Dragon Ball Z character, but he voiced Gohan (as a teenager), not Goku.
    • He also has many similarities to the character in the Dragon Ball franchise: Yajirobe
  • Ash has had at least one Pokémon that Morrison has: Gligar. This has happened before with Ash having the same Pokémon or Pokémon of the same evolutionary line as one of his rivals in the Pokémon League Conferences outside of Ritchie; Grovyle while Tyson had Sceptile, Phanpy while Tyson had Donphan, he and Gary having a Krabby as well as Ash having Squirtle while Gary has Blastoise, having Cyndaquil while Macey has Quilava, and having Bayleef while Vincent has Meganium.
  • Morrison is the second rival of Ash's to have a Steelix. The first was Harrison.
  • Morrison's name is also similar to that of Ash's Silver Conference opponents Jackson and Harrison. Their names all end with "-son", and share their names with famous singers (George Harrison, Jim Morrison, and Michael Jackson respectively).
  • A running gag was created with Morrison that involved him chasing his runaway rice ball (sandwich in the dub).
    • Interestingly, each time he chased it he always met up with Ash, who happened to be training his Snorunt/Glalie at the time. Both Snorunt and Glalie have physical similarities with rice balls.
