Psychic-type Pokemon were one of the most overused types in the Red/Blue/Yellow days, because of their absolute PWNAGE over other types, Posessing an almost invisible weakness to Ghost, and being resisted by Bug, they owned every other type in the game, until the Special stat was split in GSC to Special Attack and Special Defense, and because of the introduction of actual Ghost-type Attacks that do decent damage. In the new generation, Psychic types are pretty good in general against most Pokemon, posessing high Special Attack and Special Defense. Most of the good legendaries are part-Psychic, and Metagross (Steel/Psychic) is one of the Strongest non-Legendary Pokemon, on average.
