Synopsis
Template:Incomplete synopsis
After defeating a girl who has a Smoochum, Ash is determined to beat Clair, as he is getting close to Blackthorn City. Seeing that Ash just can’t get enough battling, the trainer suggests as she leaves that he give a local Pokémon battle park a try. Ash and his friends visits the battle park where he trains against powerful Pokémon Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise.
Team Rocket will be the one battling against Ash. First, James sends out a Venusaur, then Ash sent out his Cyndaquil. After the battle, Ash's Cyndaquil ended up losing. Then, Jessie sent out a Charizard, a Fire-type. Then, Ash sends out his Totodile a Water-type. Having the advantage, Ash ended up winning. After the battle, Meowth and James argue over who will battle next. While they argue, Jessie gets the Poké Ball. Now Ash will be facing a Blastoise. Misty notices that Ash is battling the evolved forms of Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, the Kanto starters. Battling a Blastoise, Ash uses Pikachu...

Trivia
- This episode aired in the US exactly one year and one day from its Japanese airing.
- The English title to this episode is based on the saying One Trick Pony.
- This is the first time Jessie uses a Charizard in a battle. The other is in Grating Spaces.
- When Blastoise gets attacked by Pikachu's Thunderbolt, Jessie commands it to use Withdraw and this move protects Blastoise from being hurt. However, Thunderbolt is a special move in all generations and using a Defense-raising move could not protect it from Thunderbolt.
- The combination of Solarbeam, Flamethrower and Hydro Pump used by the park's pokemon looks strikingly similar to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl move: Triple Finish
Errors
- In the beginning of the episode, Ash battled a female trainer with a Smoochum with the nickname Josephine. Later, when Pikachu attacks the Smoochum, it can be heard saying "Jo", part of its nickname, rather than its name.
