Draco Meteor can only be tutored to Dragon-type Pokémon. In the Sinnoh region, the tutor (grandma Wilma) can be found on Route 210 in her house, and in Johto, the tutor is in Blackthorn City. In the Unova region, the Souryuu City's Gym Leader, Iris in Black or Shaga in White will teach this move instead, with the same requirements.
Draco Meteor inflicts damage, and lowers the user's Special Attack by two stages afterward, thus making this move along with its variations best used as a last resort.
Garchomp's body glows orange and a orange ball of light appears inside its chest. The glow fades and a ball of orange energy appears in front of Garchomp's mouth. Garchomp fires the ball into the air and it explodes, releasing many orbs at the opponent.
Altaria puts its wings in front of its body then holds them out and a orange light appears inside of its chest. The rest of its body also glows orange. It then holds up its head and a orange ball of energy appears in front of Altaria's beak. It then fires the ball into the sky and the ball explodes, releasing multiple orange spheres at the opponent.
Gible's body glows orange and an orange ball of light forms inside its body. Then, Gible opens its mouth wide and a huge orange orb appears inside it. It then fires the orb into the sky where it explodes, releasing multiple smaller spheres at the opponent.
Since this move can only be taught to Dragon-types, this means that Pokémon like Charizard and Gyarados, despite their dragon-like characteristics, cannot be taught the move. Even Horsea, Seadra, Swablu, and Trapinch cannot learn the move, despite being related by evolution to Dragon-types, and must evolve into their Dragon-type form to learn the move.
There are only three non-Dragon-type Pokémon able to have Draco Meteor legitimately. One of them is Smeargle, which can obtain it with Sketch. The others are Jirachi, which can have it through an event, and Arceus, which can be tutored the move as a Dragon-type when holding the Draco Plate, but retains it when the Plate is removed.
Mew, though repeatedly said on the Pokédex to be able to learn any move, is not able to learn Draco Meteor because it can only be taught to Template:Type2 Pokémon.
Because of this, all Pokémon who can learn Draco Meteor by move tutor receive STAB (except Arceus when the Draco Plate is removed).
