Chansey (Japanese: ラッキー Lucky) is a Normal-type Pokémon.
Biology
Chansey resembles a large pink egg (ironic considering the moves it can learn, and the vast amount of health it has). Chansey can be extremely valuble to any Pokémon team due to the very high special defence, TM capability, and health, but many trainers regard Chansey as useless due to that fact that Chansey has the lowest defence and attack in the Pokémon franchise.
Physiology
Gender differences
Chansey is a female-only species with no male-counterpart.

In the anime
Throughout the anime, Chansey was mainly seen working at Pokémon Center. The first instance was in Pokémon Emergency. In Overjoyed, A Nurse Joy uses a Chansey to defeat Ash's Corphish in battle.
In Cutting the Ties that Bind, Spenser had his Chansey heal Ash's Sceptile after he saved Ash from Team Rocket.
Other appearances
When released from a Pokéball, Chansey will use Softboiled and produce five eggs. Anyone can pick them up and they will either slightly heal the holder or contain items.
Chansey is also a Pokéfloat. It will quickly bob up and down from the bottom of the screen four times.

Evolution
Trivia
Chansey was originally going to use her Japanese name, Lucky, as her English name.
Origin
Its tendency to carry eggs in a pouch is very monotreme- or marsupial-like. It may also just be based on a general concept of females and motherhood.
Name origin
Chansey's name is a corruption of chance; like its Japanese name, Lucky, it seems to refer to the rarity of this Pokémon.
In other languages
- German: Chaneira
- French: Leveinard - veinard means lucky or jammy. The remainder could be the prefix lev- referring to flight, or floating, it could be a corruption of Léviathan, a reference to Chansey's huge HP stat, or it could simply be le resulting in a translation of "The lucky one". The third option is most likely, based on Blissey's French name.
- Korean: 럭키 Rakki - Transliteration of the English word Lucky.
