Pidove (Japanese: マメパト Mamepato) is a dual-type Normal/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves into Hatooboo starting at level 21, which evolves into Kenhorou starting at level 32.

Biology

Physiology

Pidove is a mainly gray, pigeon-like Pokémon. It has large, oval eyes with golden irises, and a rounded head from which a spiky, crest-like arrangement of three feathers protrudes from the top of. It has a short, black beak, with a bulbous pink cere, with a black patch on the back of its neck and a wide heart-shaped area of lighter coloration on its chest. Pidove's black-colored wings have a thick gray stripe down them, and pink feet with black nails.

Behavior

Pidove aren't particularly intelligent. A Pidove will always listen to its Trainer's commands, but it doesn't always understand said commands.

Habitat

It lives in urban areas. Pidove loves company, so many of them gather in parks and plazas.

Major appearances

Ash's Pidove

Main article: Ash's Pidove

In Enter Iris and Axew!, after Ash was attacked by a flock of Pidove that later flew away, one was left behind. He battled and eventually caught her.

Minor appearances

A flock of Pidove appeared in In The Shadow of Zekrom!. Ash attempted to catch one in Enter Iris and Axew!, but he was attacked by the other members of its flock. After that, they flew away, except for one.

Multiple Pidove made a brief cameo in A Sandile Gusher of Change! with multiple Patrat and Deerling where they needed help from Ash and his friends.

Another Pidove made a brief cameo in Triple Leaders, Team Threats! in Striaton City and in BW006 with a Pokémon Trainer. A flock of Pidove made another appearance in Iris's flashback in BW009.

A Trainer's Pidove made a brief appearance in BW010 on a computer screen in the Current Town Battle Club. In BW019 multiple Trainer's Pidove were seen at a Poké Mart.

Trivia

  • Despite Pidove's Pokédex entry in Pokémon Black saying that they do not fully understand commands, Pidove in the anime appear to understand the commands of their Trainers just fine.
  • Pidove is the only Pokémon that has a base stat total of 264.
  • Pidove was the first Who's That Pokémon? for Best Wishes.

Origin

Pidove seems to be based on a pigeon or dove.

Name origin

Pidove is a combination of "pigeon" and "dove". Mamepato may be a combination of 忠実 mame meaning diligent, or 豆 mame, a prefix meaning tiny, and 鳩 hato meaning pigeon.
