Route 6

Your next stop is Saffron City, so head north through Route 6. The area is much the same as it was, though the land has shifted slightly, shortening the route. There are no Trainers here, and there is a man blocking the entrance to the Cerulean-Vermilion Underground, saying that it's closed until the Power Plant is operational again.

Head through the guardhouse to enter Saffron City.

Saffron City

Spend some time to see the sights before you challenge Sabrina at the Saffron Gym.

Mr. Psychic

Stop by the house in the city's southeast district. The homeowner, Mr. Psychic, will give you TM29 (Psychic).

Silph Co

Silph Co. is open for business, but a security guard blocks access beyond the first floor. He gives you an Up-Grade as a souvenir, one of the company's latest products.

Magnet Train Station

The Magnet Train Station is situated in the city's northwest district, but the train is currently inoperable due to some problem at the Power Plant. Once the electricity has been restored, this high-speed bullet train will run between Johto's Goldenrod and Kanto's Saffron; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Fighting Dojo

Visit the Fighting Dojo in the north, and you can get a Focus Band by the rear wall.

Now you can set your sights on the Saffron Gym.

The Master of
Psychic Pokémon!

The Saffron Gym has the same layout that it always has, though Sabrina has three less Trainers in her Gym than she used to. Follow the trail of warp tiles, and you'll eventually reach the Gym Leader. Her Alakazam may be the biggest nuisance with its Recover, but a few Template:Type2 moves, like Bite, and you'll win your tenth badge.

The Marsh Badge

After her defeat, Sabrina gives you the Marsh Badge. The badge is merely symbolic of your victory over the Saffron Gym, seeing as it doesn't affect your Pokémon's stats.
After claiming the Marsh Badge, leave west from the city to Route 7.

Route 7

The Celadon-Lavender Underground has been closed indefinitely by Celadon Police due to excessive battling in the tunnel, but it isn't needed to bypass Saffron's guards anyway. This route is the first chance you'll have to find two new Template:Type2 Pokémon (Murkrow and Houndour) if you pass through here overnight.

Don't worry about Celadon City just yet.
Backtrack through Saffron City to Route 8 instead.
