Trivia
- In spite of Simisage's tendency to attack using its thorny tail, it cannot learn any tail based moves.
- Simisage, along with Simisear, Simipour, and their respective pre-evolutions, are the only non-starter Pokémon that can have a starter-exclusive ability. In Simisage and Pansage's case, this is Overgrow.
Origin
Simisage is based on a monkey and a tree; the fact that it is based on both may mean it might be based on the legends of monkey trees or possibly a visual pun on leaf monkeys. Its hairstyle and may have been inspired by the Bōsōzoku style.
Name origin
Simisage may come from simian and sage. Yanakkie's name may come from 柳 yanagi meaning willow, and from monkey. It may also come from the word けっき kekki meaning vigor. It could also be a pun on the word "Yankee", a term used to refer to delinquent youth in Japan.
