Sawk is a Fighting-type Pokémon with a lean body, blue, rocky skin, and seemingly wearing a white and black martial arts outfit. His head is almond-shaped, with a skewed "Z" shape over his nose and left eye. The collar of his outfit is rimmed in black, and the sleeves sport a crisscrossed pattern. Sawk’s hands are blue with three fingers. He has a black, martial-arts style belt, and his “pants” have black patches on the knees. His feet have three digits.
Gender differences
Sawk are a male-only species with no female counterpart.
Special abilities
Once a Sawk's belt is tied, he becomes even stronger.
Behavior
A Sawk will become angry if his training is interrupted.
Sawk learns only Normal- and Fighting-type moves by level.
Sawk is the only Pokémon to learn Karate Chop that was introduced after Generation I (not counting Smeargle).
Sawk is also the only Pokémon to learn Karate Chop and always get STAB on it, due to the move formerly being Template:Type2.
Sawk's english name was originally going to be 'Sawkem', but was changed late in the process of english localization as a result of possible copyright infringement. Sawk's counterpart (Throh) was to have the english name 'Rawkem' (which, when read in Pokédex order, would read 'Rawkem Sawkem'). This is a play on the famous 80's toy franchise Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. Even more of a coincidence, are the matching red and blue colors shared between the Pokémon and the game's characters.
According to interviews with Sugimori in Nintendo Dream: in development, Sawk and Throh both had horns and looked more like Oni, but these were removed so as not to clash with Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus.
Name origin
Sawk is a corruption of to sock, meaning to punch. Dageki's name is likely derived from 打撃 dageki, blow, strike. The name also contains 鬼 ki, meaning Oni.
