Brock's Geodude (Japanese: タケシのイシツブテTakeshi's Isitsubute) was the second Pokémon acquired by Brock in the anime, and he also has one in most of the games he appears in.
Geodude was first seen in Brock's rematch with Ash at the Pewter City Gym. It was used against Pidgeotto where it was shown to have a powerful defense, not even being fazed by Pidgeotto's Gust, and managed to defeat it without any trouble. It was then used against Pikachu but was fried by a very powerful Thunderbolt, despite the fact that it is immune to Electric moves.
Similar to most of Brock's Pokémon, Geodude received very little screentime. Brock typically used it in situations in which he needed to battle, but could not use Onix because of its enormous size. One such occasion was Battle Aboard the St. Anne, when it joined a large group of Geodude to attack Team Rocket.
Brock entered Geodude in the P1 Grand Prix in The Punchy Pokémon. It lost in the first round to Giant's Hitmonlee which was used by Team Rocket. Initially, Brock sent Geodude back into the ring where it was kicked mercilessly, but on Anthony's advice, Brock threw in the towel and apologised to Geodude for making it fight.
It again filled its advantage over fire by helping Onix, Charizard and Blaine's Magmar dam the erupting Cinnabar volcano in Volcanic Panic. It was kept cool by the efforts of Squirtle and Staryu.
Orange Islands
It accompanied its trainer to the Orange Islands. In A Scare in the Air, during battle with Team Rocket, it hurled Weezing through the side of a blimp, causing severe damage and forcing a crash landing on Valencia Island. In the following episode, Poké Ball Peril, Geodude stayed with its trainer at Professor Ivy's lab.
It returned with its Trainer and fellow Pokémon in A Tents Situation. In Sick Daze, it was revealed that Brock usually polished his Rock Pokémon, so Misty took up the job of polishing Geodude whilst Brock was sick. It was captured by Team Rocket, but was rescued when Brock, Pineco and Golbat intervened.
In Control Freak!, Geodude dug a pathway to get into the ancient ruins. However, once inside, Jessie, in possession of the ancient Queen's mask and scepter, took control of Geodude, along with Onix and Pikachu. However, once Jessie, James and Meowth escaped with Pikachu on Onix, Geodude was left behind and snapped free of Jessie's control.
Geodude was revealed to know Mega Punch in EP250 (an unaired episode in the dub) where it fought Jessie's Arbok, but was easily defeated with Headbutt and Wrap. It was then stolen by Team Rocket, but recovered later. It acted as a fire fighter for the third time in Great Bowls of Fire!, where it attempted to rescue the Pokémon trapped in a fire. It managed to save the sacred Prayer Flame from the burning shrine at the end of the episode. In Entei At Your Own Risk!, Geodude was sent out to enjoy the hot sands. It pushed Ash's Larvitar headfirst into the hot sand, having no patience for its timidity.
In the Christmas special, Geodude was seen helping Delibird retrieve its presents. It was also seen having a snowball fight with the rest of the Pokémon in Kanga Games.
Geodude received very little character development as it did not receive much screen time. However, it comes across as one of the older Pokémon in the show, with quite little patience for wasting time. This was shown by the fact that it shoved Larvitar into the sand headfirst, having no patience for babying it like Ash, Pikachu and others were doing. It was very fond of its trainer, who had trained it for many years, and was known to polish it in maintenance.
A † shows that the move was used recently, unless all moves fit this case or there are fewer than five known moves.
In the games
Geodude has appeared in most of the games Brock has appeared in, except Gold, Silver, and Crystal, and HeartGold and SoulSilver, in which he instead uses a Graveler, and eventually a Golem in the rematches in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Geodude is the only Generation I Pokémon Brock still owns that hasn't evolved yet, despite its game counterpart presumably being shown as a Graveler in Generation II, and eventually a Golem by the rematch in HGSS. His Zubat and Onix already evolved to their final forms, and Vulpix is owned by a different Trainer: Suzy.
Geodude is the only one of Brock's Pokémon which has not had the circumstances of its capture shown in the anime.
Geodude was not shown using any moves until 20 episodes after its debut.
