Mewtwo is one of the first Pokémon created by science. The scientists who created it dreamed of making a Pokémon that was the strongest Pokémon ever.
Physiology
Mewtwo is a creature with a humanoid posture. Mewtwo's body is grayish-purple with a purple under-side and a long, purple tail. Mewtwo's feet have three toes and three-fingered hands. Mewtwo has purple eyes and two short ears.
One of the most notable features of Mewtwo is the tube extending from the back of its skull to its spine. Not exactly a neck, as it obviously provides no support to the head, it still is most likely a secondary spinal cord, or a system of nerves, allowing for an increased amount of blood and sensory transmission to the brain, heightening its psychic powers.
Gender differences
This Pokémon is genderless and it is the only one of its kind, but it looks somewhat more masculine. In the movies, it also has a male telepathic voice.
Special abilities
Mewtwo is highly skilled with Psychic powers. It can fly through the air (and take anyone else that it pleases with it), speak human tongue by using telepathy and take over another living thing's mind. Mewtwo is also capable of wielding various types of attack (but at a slightly lesser extent than Mew). In the Pokémon Special manga, Mewtwo fights with a highly skilled combination of Psywave for long range moves, and a giant spoon for close range battles.
Behavior
Mewtwo is very aggressive and thinks of nothing but battling and defeating its foes. The reason for this might be somehow connected to the repeated recombining of its DNA or the loss of his/its best frend Amber.
In Pokémon Special Mewtwo has a similar origin and personality to the Mewtwo that appeared in the anime. It is a genetically engineered created by Blaine for Team Rocket by splicing Mew's DNA with his own. Blaine later defected from Team Rocket and hid himself away, as both he and Mewtwo were suffering from an illness caused by a shared psychic link due to their mutual DNA. Mewtwo went on a rampage and hid itself in the Cerulean Cave, but Red was able to capture him with a Master Ball and return him to Blaine so he could attempt to find a cure for their illness. Blaine and Mewtwo fought against Lance but were defeated when their condition weakened them. The pair were later cured by the flames of an Entei Blaine befriended and Mewtwo left on his own, returning when he learned of Giovanni's plans to use Deoxys for nefarious purposes. Mewtwo joined up with Red to attempt to defeat Deoxys and Giovanni.
In the TCG
Mewtwo has made many appearances in the trading card game:
Mewtwo can be unlocked after a lot of playing in VS. Mode; either after 700 matches or 20 hours of combined play. Despite Mewtwo being a Legendary Pokémon, most players of the game don't consider it to be a great fighter as Mewtwo's weight, speed and strength are unreal to its Pokémon statistics.
Trophy information
Classic Mode
A genetically created Pokémon, Mewtwo is the result of many long years of research by a solitary scientist. Although Mewtwo was born from the genes of the legendary Pokémon Mew, its size and character are far different than its ancestor. Its battle abilities have been radically heightened, making it ruthless.
Adventure Mode
As Mewtwo relies mostly on its powerful brain, there are times when it scarcely uses its arms and legs. Since Mewtwo spends much of its time floating, it flies far when struck. Shadow Ball traces a jagged path once released: the longer Mewtwo holds it, the more powerful it becomes. Mewtwo uses Confusion to spin its foes around.
All-Star Mode
Mewtwo is definitely not a speedy character, but its ESP-powered grab and throw moves are comparatively strong. Teleport has a short range, but doesn't leave it open to attack. It's best used as an escape move during disturbances. Mewtwo can daze a foe if it makes eye contact and uses Disable; the move is useless unless Mewtwo is facing its enemy.

Due to the Template:Type2 being off-balance with the fourteen other types in Generation I, and combined with its high base stats (only equaled, never surpassed, until Generation IV introduced Arceus), Mewtwo was long regarded as the most powerful of all Pokémon, and considered broken.
While it is supposed to be a clone of Mew, it precedes Mew in the National Pokedex, being number 150, while Mew is number 151. Also, while Mewtwo is needed to complete one's Pokedex, Mew isn't.
Origin
It is very cat-like, and its nature and origin are similar to elements of Mary Shelly'sFrankenstein, in which an artificial lifeform turned on its creators. Mewtwo also bears a resemblance to the Dragon Ball Z villian, Frieza.
Name origin
Mewtwo's name is a combination of Mew, referring to the Pokémon on which it was based, and two, indicating that it is a clone of Mew. It also sounds somewhat phonetically similar to the English word mutant (myūtanto).
