Grumpig is a Pokémon based upon a pig that is bipedal. The lower half of its body is black, while the upper half is purple. There is also black on its ears and arms, while its hands and feet are purple. There appear to be three shining black pearls on its body, two on its head and another on its mid-section where the black half meets the purple. These pearls are related to Grumpig's strong psychic powers. Its large ears are useful for hearing and properly directing the sound to the inner ear. It also has a pink snout on its face, along with human-like oval-shaped eyes and a mouth. One of its most notable features is its long and curly pink tail, that may have been what was used to bounce in its previous form, Spoink. It is unknown whether Grumpig is able to use the spring-like tail to its advantage aside from using the move Bounce.

Special abilities
Like Spoink's, the pearls on Grumpig's body give it the ability to execute powerful Psychic attacks. A unique ability of Grumpig's is being able to perform unusual dance steps to hypnotize its opponents; it is most likely that harnessing the energy of the pearls to amplify its Psychic-type moves causes it to automatically move in odd ways.
Behavior
As previously stated, Grumpig are known to perform odd dance steps; this dance has become popular among many humans. Much of Grumpig's behavior involves hypnotism and psychic power, which is most likely why it is known as the Manipulate Pokémon.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga
In VS. Grumpig I of the Ruby & Sapphire arc, a herd of wild Grumpig attacked Ruby and Sapphire, only to be promptly defeated by the former's Mightyena, Nana. This would turn out to be a critical development in the manga's plot, as it is through this that Sapphire grows aware of Ruby's real strength.
Grumpig uses the black pearls on its body to amplify its psychic power waves for gaining total control over its foe. When this Pokémon uses its special power, its snorting breath grows labored.
Grumpig uses the black pearls on its body to wield its fantastic powers. When it is doing so, it dances bizarrely. This Pokémon's black pearls are valuable as works of art.
It stores power in the black pearls on its forehead. When it uses psychic power, it performs an odd dance step. Its style of dancing became hugely popular overseas.
Grumpig shares the same species name with Gothorita. They are both known as Manipulate Pokémon.
Despite its Pokédex entries mentioning it performing odd dance steps, it cannot learn Teeter Dance.
The Pokédex entry in the Pokémon Adventures manga misidentified Grumpig as a Puppet Pokémon.
Origin
It is possible the inspiration for Grumpig came from the biblical phrase "do not cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under your feet." The pearls were supposed to represent wisdom given to an audience who wouldn't appreciate the teachings. Grumpig and Spoink appear to instead use those pearls of wisdom to enhance their mental powers. It is also quite obviously based on a pig.
Name origin
Grumpig may be a combination of grump and pig. Grump may also be a corruption of grunt, a sound that pigs make.
Boopig may be a combination of ブーブー būbū (the sound of grumbling or oinking) or 豚 buta (pig) and pig.
