A Poffin Case and Poffin

Poffin is an item introduced in Generation IV. Its name is a portmanteau of the words Pokémon and muffin. However, despite the name, it seems to be more like a bun.

Poffin is similar to Pokéblock in the sense that they raise either the Beauty, Tough, Cute, Cool or Smart trait of a Pokémon in a Contest. However, they are different in how they are created. As in the third generation, Pokémon favor different types of flavor depending on their nature.

Making a Poffin

In order to create a Poffin, a player must have at least one Berry in the Berry List. Once a berry is obtained, the player must go to Hearthome City, and then head to the house south of the Pokémon Center. Poffin may be made by either the player alone or by using other players via the DS's wireless feature.

After this, the player chooses a berry, similar to how Pokéblocks are made. Using the stylus, the player must stir the Poffin's dough around until it turns brown and spotted.

Overflows and Burns

You may notice that while making a Poffin, you have to stir it at a certain speed. Otherwise, it could overflow or burn. Spills are caused by turning too fast, and burns are caused by turning too slow. While you try making Poffins for the first time, you'll find that turning in the opposite direction from the direction you were turning in is a bit tricky at first. This is the reason many burns are caused. A good strategy to prevent burns is that when you switch direction, go faster, not fast enough to spill, but fast enough so it won't burn.
