Relicanth are stocky fish-like Pokémon with features that resemble coelacanths. They seem ancient and primitive. It is mostly brown with patches of tan on its body and a tan skull-like head. It has a red spot on each side of its body. Its scales are as craggy as rock. It also possesses many pairs of fins which it can use to punt itself along the sea bottom.
Gender differences
Female Relicanth have smaller cheek bones.
Special abilities
Relicanth's tough, rock-like scales allows it to survive intense pressure and most physical attacks. It's one of the few Pokémon capable of learning the move Head Smash.
Behavior
Relicanth feeds on microscopic organisms with its toothless mouth, and walks on the seafloor using its pectoral fins.
Relicanth reside deep within the sea abyss. Due to its rock-like scales, it can withstand the immense hydrostatic pressure that can be found at such extreme depths.
In Pokémon Adventures, Sapphire has a Relicanth nicknamed Relo. It was one of the keys to solving the mystery of the Sealed Chamber. While he still belongs to Sapphire, it was not seen in her party during the Emerald arc, and is assumed to be at sea with her Wailord, Walo, as of her latest appearance.
Relicanth is a Pokémon species that existed for a hundred million years without ever changing its form. This ancient Pokémon feeds on microscopic organisms with its toothless mouth.
Relicanth is a rare species that was discovered in deep-sea explorations. This Pokémon's body withstands the enormous water pressure of the ocean depths. Its body is covered in tough scales that are like craggy rocks.
A Pokémon that was once believed to have been extinct. The species has not changed its form for 100 million years. It walks on the seafloor using its pectoral fins.
Relicanth shares its types with four of the five original fossil Pokémon, Kabuto, Kabutops, Omanyte, and Omastar, furthering its link to them as a living fossil.
Relicanth's regular and Shiny form colorations are the same as those observed in its real-life counterpart.
Relicanth's EV yield (1 HP and 1 Defense) is unique.
Relicanth are based on the modern Latimeria chalumnae, a coelacanth species that was thought to be extinct. They are considered living fossils, because they are virtually unchanged from their prehistoric forms. Like in real life, Relicanth was thought to be extinct 100 million years ago, until it was recently rediscovered in a submarine exploration.
Name origin
Relicanth is a combination of relic (something old that has survived the passage of time) and coelacanth.
Glanth is a combination of 爺 jī (old man) and coelacanth.
