Tynamo is a white, eel-like Pokémon with a red cross comprising a mouth. Its eyes are oval-shaped and dark, and further down its body is has a yellow stripe and a long fin membrane, giving its body a tapered shape.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
It has an organ which generates electricity when it's in trouble. Alone, this generated electricity isn't powerful, but in a group it's as strong as lightning. Due to its Ability Levitate, it has no weakness.
Behavior
Tynamo travel in groups.
Habitat
These Pokémon live in caves and marine environments.
Tynamo and its evolutionaryrelatives are the only Pokémon, aside from Ghost/Dark types, to have no weaknesses. However, this is due to their ability, Levitate, which eliminates their sole weakness to the Ground type, and not because of type matchups.
They are also the only single-type Pokémon with no weaknesses.
However, they cannot be made invincible if given Wonder Guard, as it replaces Levitate, thus making them weak to Ground-type attacks.
Also, they are the only weakness-free Pokémon that have evolutionary relatives.
Despite being based on marine animals, and living in the ocean, Tynamo and its evolutionary relatives are not Water-type, cannot learn any Water-type moves other than Rain Dance (which can only be learned by its evolved forms), and are not found near water in the wild in the main series games.
Because it can only learn Normal and Electric-type moves, the only way Tynamo can damage Golett or Golurk is through Struggle.
It is the only Generation V Pokémon incapable of learning TMs.
This means that despite learning Thunder Wave and Charge Beam by level, Tynamo is incompatible with both TMs that teach the moves.
Tynamo's in-game cry sounds strikingly similar to Shinx's, though only in a higher pitch.
Origin
Tynamo and its evolutionary relatives may be based on electric eels, lampreys, jawless fish and possibly leeches or lancelets. The fact that it is Electric-type may be an allusion to bioelectrogenesis. It also resembles leptocephalus, larval stage of the eel, or also a knifefish. The waving yellow mark running along its body combined with the physical appearance overall makes certain resemblance to Haikouichthys, or even a Crookes tube or a Geissler tube. Tynamo may also be based on a Skyfish, which would explain its Levitate ability.
Name origin
Tynamo may be a combination of tiny or tyke (referring to its small size) and dynamo (referring to its Electric typing).
Shibishirasu may be a combination of 痺れ shibire (numbness) or しびれうなぎ shibireunagi (electric eel) and シラス shirasu (whitebait).
