Sacred Fire (Japanese: せいなるほのおSacred Fire) is a damage-dealing Fire-typemove introduced in Generation II. It is Ho-Oh's signature move. Unlike most moves that can cause status problems, this move has a 50% chance of burning the opponent, as opposed to the usual 10%-30%.
Sacred Fire inflicts damage, with a 50% chance of burning the target. If the user is frozen, using Sacred Fire will thaw out the user and deal damage to the target in the same turn.

In the anime
Ho-Oh
The foe is razed with a mystical fire of great intensity.
Sacred Fire was changed to a physical move in Generation IV. However, its animation in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum still resembles that of a Special Attack. This change was likely to take advantage of Ho-Oh's higher Attack stat, as it is still its signature move.
