Regice is an Ice-type Pokémon whose body is composed of Antarctic ice that resembles a crystal. Its face has an unusual pattern consisting of seven yellow dots in a "+" formation. Its legs appear to be simply cones and it balances its entire body on those two points. In the anime, Regice moves around by floating in the air.
Gender differences
Regice is a genderless species.
Special abilities
Regice cloaks itself in air that is -328 degrees Fahrenheit (-200 degrees Celsius). It can survive if submerged in molten lava. Due to its extremely frigid body, anyone who approaches it can freeze. It is capable of surviving even extremely hot temperatures. Regice has the unexplainable ability to wield Electrical attacks like Zap Cannon.
Behavior
It is said to have slept in a glacier for thousands of years.
It was seen again in Pillars of Friendship! where it was used to battle the rampaging Regigigas at the Snowpoint Temple. Regigigas used Confuse Ray on Regirock, Regice and Registeel and all four Pokémon went on a rampage. All the rampaging Pokémon (except Regigigas) faded away, and when J used her weapon to catch the immobilized Regigigas and Regirock, Regice and Registeel and eventually Pyramid King Brandon all jumped in front of J's firing range and were frozen. Regigigas eventually brought them back to life with Hidden Power.
Regice debuted near the end of the Ruby & Sapphire arc, when Glacia was attempting to open the Island Cave. Together, Steven and Sapphire created a team of four Beldum and Sapphire's Relicanth and Wailord, thus opening up the chamber containing Regice. Regice, along with the other two golems, used Superpower to stop the effects of the clash between Groudon and Kyogre from spreading. After the battle, it and the other two Regis traveled to the mountains, where they were later caught by Brandon.
Regice, along with the other two legendary golems, are seen under the possession of Candice. She uses them against Hareta to test his worthiness to challenge Regigigas.
Regice cloaks itself with frigid air of negative 328 degrees F. Things will freeze solid just by going near this Pokémon. Its icy body is so cold, it will not melt even if it is immersed in magma.
Regice can also be caught in Black 2, but it requires using Unova Link and interacting with another game to obtain the Iceberg Key, which is otherwise available only to White 2, therefore making it version-exclusive.
In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, there is an unobtainable Regice Doll programmed into the game. It may have been intended to be obtained with the e-Reader.
In the English dub of the anime, Regice's name has been pronounced in two different ways, 'Red-gee-ice' and 'Redgice'.
Regice can learn Frost Breath despite having no visible orifice from which to expel breath.
Origin
Regice is based on the golems of Hebrew legend. The legends cast them as servants of higher powers and are said to have writing on their heads. When the writing is removed, the creature would be weakened.
The legendary golems' typing (and overall appearance, with Regice being polished ice, which is more modern than Regirock) could have been a reference to the three major ages in history, with Regice being Ice Age.
Name origin
Regice is a combination of regis (Latin for royal) and ice.
