History

Johto

As a Totodile

Wani-Wan1 was Marina's starter Pokémon, obtained as a Totodile from Professor Elm on the same day that Vincent received his Chikorita and Jimmy received his Cyndaquil, as seen in the Japanese opening and ending theme "A New Oath".

As a Croconaw

Unlike Jimmy's Typhlosion and Vincent's Meganium, it didn't seem to be used as often, only appearing once as a Croconaw during The Legend of Thunder!.

In The Legend of Thunder, Marina used Wani-Wani to battle Jimmy's Beedrill, after Little Pink was defeated. Jimmy then called Beedrill back and used his Typhlosion to battle against the Water-type Pokémon. During he battle, Marina was shown to be in sync with Wani-Wani's actions. Despite type disadvantage, Typhlosion managed to stand up to Wani-Wani's attacks.

Wani-Wani later made a cameo with its Trainer in the beginning of the movie Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea.

Sinnoh

It was revealed to have evolved into a Feraligatr during an internet broadcast of a Pokémon Contest in A Stand-Up Sit-Down!. It used Aqua Tail in an appeal round in conjunction with Little Pink during a double performance in Hearthome City.

Trivia

• The nickname Wani-Wani either comes from ワニノコ Waninoko, Totodile's Japanese name, or just from the Japanese word for crocodile, 鰐 wani.
• It is the only starter from The Legend of Thunder! that wasn't in its final form in its introduction, as Jimmy's Typhlosion and Vincent's Meganium are.
