Golbat is a blue bat-like Pokémon. Its wing membranes and ear insides are purple. It has a large mouth with four fangs, and a large red tongue. Since evolving, it has formed a pair of small eyes. Golbat has a short pair of legs that possess only one toe each. Golbat's ears are much smaller compared to Zubat's, being triangular and having ear insides that do not appear chambered. Golbat's wings, unlike Zubat, also only have one 'finger' instead of two.
Golbat basically have the same abilities as Zubat, only stronger. Golbat is one of a small number of Pokémon still capable of evolution that are able to use Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.
Golbat's blood type will change to that of its victim.
Behavior
Golbat tend to be gluttonous and are prone to drinking blood until they get too heavy to fly straight.
Golbat can be found quite easily in caves, particularly in caverns with limestone, which enhances their ultrasonic radar. Much like Zubat, it can be found in most regions.
It loves the blood and energy of humans and Pokémon, and at night, it flies around looking for victims. When it absorbs blood, its blood type changes to the same blood type as its victims.
In Adventuring the Stone, Pikachu defeats a flock of Golbat so that he and the others can reach the legendary Stone of Adventure found deep within a cave.
Koga has a Golbat as one of his team members. This Golbat is special in that it is able to use Supersonic in order to project a clear visual of the locations of others, using its gaping mouth as a screen. Agatha also possesses a Golbat, which fought against Koga's Golbat in the Yellow arc. Golbat later made cameo appearances in both the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc and Ruby & Sapphire arc as wild Pokémon.
Pokémon Stadium 2: Golbat stars in the mini-game "Gutsy Golbat." The object is to fly around and collect as many hearts as can be collected; the player with the most hearts at the end of the cave is the winner.
