Bulbapedia talk:Project GlitchDex
Name
I'd say this should be renamed to fit with the other cataloging projects, like MoveDex and Pokédex. Maybe move it to "Project GlitchDex"?
Oh. And, um, make sure that glitches stay separate from normal Pokémon. Reference Pokémon pages, utilize template code, but don't use the templates themselves. Check out MissingNo. for my call on that. TTEchidnaGSDS! 20:30, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- Actually.. before this sprang up I was thinking of a project GlitchDex. :p Glad to see the glitch pages being worked on, always found them so cool.

Sprites
Now, I think the first thing we ought to do here is upload sprites of all the glitch Pokémon. Noticeably, several of these articles lack sprites, such as .4, A (uppercase), 3TrainerPoké, and 44Hy. We're also lacking proper sprites of MissingNo.'s other forms (Aerodactyl/Kabutops skeletons+ghost).

I will join Project GlitchDex, I will always try to find out any info about the Glitch Pokémon evrn if it means risking my saved file. I will do any tests I can to help people to have not just a better understanding on Glitches but also know more and more. Thanks - Glitch Adam
I will gladly test glitches, from minor to harmful on both emulators and cartridges, no matter the risk. I will try out glitches that require gameshark or ar. Glitch Infobox?
While adding sprites to the glitch articles I noticed that some of the articles had the standard Pokémon infobox (with the categories removed), while others had none whatsoever. I also noticed that the majority of the infoboxes had "N/A" or "None" in most of the fields while the relevant information was in a list in the article itself. I propose that we make a seperate infobox for glitch Pokémon that includes relevant glitch-specific information (hexadecimal identifier, Pokédex number, equivalents in other versions, whether its Pokédex entry is terminated correctly, etc). Good idea? abwayax (t/c)
20:26, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- Seperate infobox, hm? I think it's a good idea.. like, instead of the regular stuff, it'd have the corresponding Mew glitch Special hex and stuff. Tina δ♫ 20:28, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm in agreement here. An infobox for the glitch Pokémon is a good idea.

- As you may have noticed I made separate type templates for the glitch infobox. The reason being is that the standard Pokémon type templates add the page to type categories, and consensus seems to dictate that we keep the glitch Pokémon seperate from the officially recognized ones (That and many of the glitch Pokémon have glitch types, which don't have real categories (ex. there is no Category: Pokémaniac-type Pokémon nor will there likely be one in future).

Categorization
Okay. I've looked over a few articles and from what I can tell, the consensus within Bulbapedia is to not treat the glitch Pokémon as "real Pokémon". On the MissingNo. article there was actually an edit war with some people attempting to classify it as a "Pokémon", but from what I can tell the clear consensus is that MissingNo is not a "Pokémon". To that end, I modified the Template:GlitchPkmnInfobox so that it doesn't put the page in any Pokémon categories. However, recently MissingNo. was put into Category:Normal-type Pokémon again. Should it be acceptable to include glitches in the type categories? I'm only asking because I don't want to revert that edit and inadvertently start another edit war. abwayax (t/c)
01:57, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- Eh, I think we should.. if it happens to share a normal type, however. So no Category:Bird-type Pokémon. Tina δ♫ 02:01, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Notability criteria
Here's something that's really been bugging me. Where exactly do we draw the line between a notable glitch Pokémon and a non-notable one? Obviously MissingNo. is notable, and apparently the 20-something other Gen I glitches listed are too... but what about the 120-something others that aren't? Furthermore, should glitch items and attacks deserve pages? Even pages such as List of glitch items...? abwayax (t/c)
03:43, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- No glitch items, attacks, and Pokémon shouldn't even have pages. They are errors in a game's data and shouldn't even exist.PokeManiac102 03:54, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- But they do exist, so why pretend they don't?
abwayax (t/c)
04:28, 18 January 2008 (UTC)- Eh, don't listen to him. Although, List of glitch items sounds like a greater idea than to just give seperate pages to them-- as I think the only 'notable' glitch item is Teru-sama from Gold and Silver... same thing goes for the glitch moves, like TM07 and the like. It's kind of a mystery on what the TM moves do, really. Tina δ♫ 15:28, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- If they do exist, why don't we have all of them? huh?!PokeManiac102 22:23, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- But they do exist, so why pretend they don't?
Here's what I think.
1st. gen: Any Glitch Pokémon you can obtain by any method that doesn't require a cheating device could be considered notable. Anything else, no.
2nd through 4th gen: Every Glitch Pokémon for these should be considered notable, as there are significantly less of them and even fewer obtainable w/o a cheating device.
But this is just my opinion.
Also, we should do something for the glitch moves, but as to what, I don't know. -- Glitch and Official Pokémon. There is no real difference between the two. In my opinion, the two should be considered equal!-- quoted by Missingno. Master 19:55, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well, most of the Glitch Pokémon you say require a Cheating Device can be found when fighting a trainer using the Old Man Glitch. You see the Glitch pokemon when you fight the Trainer, you just need the Gameshark to capture it. In my opinion, we should document these glitches, and merely have a notice at the top that states how it can found without a Gameshark, but cannot be captured without one. If B óË ÁN, a glitch that basically does NOTHING can get its own article, why can't these glitches? --Boxman, a Guy who works with Glitches. 18:57, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, so what you're saying is if a Glitch can't be caught because it crashes the game, it doesn't count? Surely if it can crash the game it is even glitchier than the ones that can't - how does that make it less of a Glitch Pokémon? It is still within the code of the game, it is still a Glitch, and it is still a Pokémon, ergo it should be considered equal to all other Glitches. Mattiuscn 17:41, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
A proposal
I think that we should make the Glitch Pokémon articles titled in a way similar to the Pokémon articles. Example: "MissingNo." moved to "MissingNo. (Glitch Pokémon)"., ".4" moved to ".4 (Glitch Pokémon)", ect.. See the thing? This would be effective in stopping people from moving MissingNo. to MissingNo. (Pokémon), and stuff of that sort. I would also propose a link template like Template:P. Maybe {{gp|name}}. -- Glitch and Official Pokémon. There is no real difference between the two. In my opinion, the two should be considered equal!-- quoted by Missingno. Master 20:25, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- Dude, that is not needed. Nobody is gonna move Missigno. to Missigno. (Pokémon). Why? Because it's not a Pokémon! --Theryguy512 00:49, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- But you never know when you get the extreme Glitch Pokémon extremist who tries to do something like moving MissingNo. to MissingNo. (Pokémon). True, I did at one point seriously consider doing so, but somehow forgot.
- IMHO this is unnecessary. What would this suffix accomplish, in terms of disambiguation? The Pokémon articles are titled like that to disambiguate them versus articles on significant members of that species (Pikachu disambiguates to Pikachu (Pokémon) and Ash's Pikachu) since individual Pokémon usually don't have their own names (Ash's Pikachu is just called Pikachu, as are most of the Pikachu in the world). AFAIK "MissingNo." or ".4" wouldn't refer to anything else, and even if we did decide otherwise, making a template to link to them would be a bit excessive - how many times would we link to one of these articles in article space?

- And the old argument opens up again.... Recently, PkMn was moved to PkMn (Glitch Pokémon), because PkMn was to be made a disambig. page. See, PKMN is a common abbreviation for Pokémon. THERE'S the necessity for the (Glitch Pokémon) suffix. On that page at least. And, just my opinion here, I don't think it would look very professional on Bulbapedia's part to have one Glitch Pokémon article with said suffix, and no such thing for the others, see where I'm getting at here? Glitch moves
We should have articles for them. They can be learned by numerous Glitch Pokémon. Some things i discovered
I found two things. I'll say the least important first, shall I?
The glitch move "TM05" sharply raises your EVADE stat.
The more important may be noticed more, and you might decide to make an article on it, unless I do.
It's a Glitch Pokemon - [Lots of glitched symbols]g[Some more glitched symbols] (I like to call him ||-g) On first capture it is apparently like a Rhydon. On second or later capture, it is a powerful Glitch Pokemon that (on lvl 42) comes with Mega Punch, TM05, Fire Punch and Growl ( i think )
It only comes when you put in the code that is meant to make wild Togepis come in Pokemon Red/Blue. Koga will challenge you (for some reason). And he has 6 "||-g"'s All at Lvl 42.
No probs, DarkraiDude ;)

- made an account just now, don't know if this is how I should have reported this so, sorry if I shouldn't have*
I can not give proper information as to how I performed this glitch because it occurred over 10 years ago on my Pokemon Red version. The glitch was that after placing a Meowth (which I had just traded over from my Blue version) into Bill's Pc, I scrolled my list of Pokemon inside the Pc (to withdraw one) and I continued to scroll past 'cancel' which brought me into a new list of unintelligible characters. Although unreadable and spreading outside of the list window I was still able to scroll normally over each slot. The list of characters was endless regardless of how long I scrolled and I could not go back into my real box. Clicking on one and looking at its stats would show either (from my searching of glitch pokemon) the 'japanese character' glitch pokemon or a mew within the random mix. Checking either's stats before withdrawing would crash my game after canceling my withdraw so I would be forced to take them. Both the glitch and the mew would be at level 100. When in my party the 'japanese character' glitch would become a Rhydon after 1 battle as well as level up to lv1. The mew would also level to 1 after 1 fight.
- This glitch would always and only occur on that one save file after depositing the meowth. I could not find a way to recreate on a new save file.
- What I can remember of how I caused the glitch to occur*
My game was completed and I had beaten the Elite Four numerous times (roughly 4-5 times). I had just come onto the game after trading a Meowth from the Pokemon Blue version (which was still within my party). After depositing the mewoth only, I would then chose to withdraw and I would scroll all the way down by holding the down button past 'cancel' (the arrow on screen would flash on 'cancel' a few times before scrolling into the glitch box). I roughly remember the Meowth being just caught on the Blue version in the grass above the day care center (though I can not remember for certain)
- If this needs to be moved into a different section then feel free to do so*

- With my AR and my friends' Pokemon Black game, I entered 0 as the National Pokedex number in a pokemodifier and encountered a -----. It was a circle with a ? inside. I caught it and saved, and it is like a regular Pokemon except it has no moves. After teaching it Hyper Beam with my AR, I could even battle with it. Lots of work needed
Firstly, all the articles need to be moved from [name] to [name] (Glitch Pokémon) to match PkMn. Secondly, many of the articles need sprites to replace the battle screens, nothingness, and in one instance, party screenshot in the infoboxes. Then, we must somehow integrate their evolutions into their evolved forms' pages (like under an "Unofficial" or "Glitch" heading). I've also noticed an inconsistancy in evoboxes between articles. Some use the old ones, some use the new ones. And then, some articles have no infoboxes at all! I can't do all this by myself, much as I'd like to be able to, so I need the help of the numerous people who have signed up for this project. WHO'S WITH ME???!?! - unsigned comment from Missingno. Problem with To-Do List
Um, in the GlitchDex To-Do List, task #3 states: 3: Integrate the Glitch Pokémon evolutions into the pages of the official Pokémon they evolve into. However, they would be under a separate sub-heading in the evolution section.
I went to check out Kangaskhan's page and see if Missingno. had already been integrated, and I found someone put a protesting message in the editing page, saying something to the effect of that doing such a thing wouldn't be the right thing to do. Glitch Pokémon image naming
We need some kind of convention for these, as they are currently all over the place.
Maybe GlitchRB_## and Glitch_Y## etc, where the # are the Hexadecimal identifiers? For example, 'M would be GlitchRB_00 and Z4 would be GlitchY_C3. ????? Hex 00 could be GlitchG2_00, while - could be GlitchG3_019C and ----- could be GlitchG4_0000.
The only problem in Generation I that I see is with Missingno. which has multiple Hex IDs, but it could simply stay the way that it is now.

Dual Fossil glitch
hey, i am a new user on here, but i am a longtime pokemon player. one day, back in 2004, me and a friend were playing pokemon ruby. now, you guys may know about this, but i havent seen it yet. so here it goes.
Dual Fossil Glitch
in ruby/sapphire, you can obtain 1 of 2 fossils, of course. but, with a certain chain of events, we were able to secure both fossils in the same game. whats more is, we did it multiple times, with multiple copies of the game. w i dont remember the exact event chain. but it involves entering the devon corp, exiting, and a saving, but cutting off the power halfway through. we did this mulitple times. i vaguely remember it, but we had both fossils, in one go. i was shocked. im so sorry i cant remember what all we did, but would love to continue this expirement, as i believe that it could have an effect on items as well.. well if your interested, email me! william.alsup@live.com.
THANK YOU!!!- unsigned comment from William.alsup (talk • contribs)
- This project can't really help you. It is more about writing aticles on them, not researching them (but we do that too). Glitch City Labs would be more appropriate for this kind of question. --SnorlaxMonster 02:38, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Glitch Training: Pros, Cons, and Dangers
While I don't think I have much to contribute to the GlitchDex myself, I'm nonetheless very impressed by and interested in it. I've had many of the popular known glitches in Generation I under my belt for years now due to my morbid fascination, but only through this project discovered just how little I really knew. It's even crossed my mind to attempt a playthrough using a team of glitch Pokémon recently... however, I noticed that your Glitch Pokémon pages lack a section addressing the glitch species' positive and negative effects, and more importantly, any risks there may be to attempting to capture and use them. I'm aware that there are many glitch species there are completely harmless and others which are extremely lethal, and I don't think I'm the only one who would benefit from having this information available on each Glitch Pokémon's profile. If this has been mentioned and rejected for any reason before, I apologize for bringing it up. I just felt it might be worth suggesting. - Xelrog T. Apocalypse 22:14, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- Any additional effects that the glitch Pokémon have should be listed on their pages. As for the advantages and disadvantages for using competitively, that will definitely not be going on. We don't even do that for non-glitch Pokémon. It's far too subjective. --SnorlaxMonster 02:05, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Pokemon Glitch List Help
Hi, I made a glitch-related article called Kecleon Money Glitch. I also put it in the Minor glitches page. But whenever I look at the list of glitches (see below), I can't see the name of the article which is supposed to appear in the Side games part of the list. But all I can see is my other article, Kecleon glitch. Please help. Thanks in advance.
---Pokemaniac2000 05:01:18, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- Honestly, I'd rather you didn't make that page and instead just placed it on the list of minor glitches, but to do what you want to do, you need to edit the actual template
{{Glitches}}
. However, I've done it for you now. Also, when creating a page, please use sentence case not title case, so Kecleon money glitch rather than Kecleon Money Glitch. --SnorlaxMonster 07:48, 5 October 2010 (UTC)- Thank you so much.Pokemaniac2000 12:32, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Huh
So the project's aim is to add pretty much every Glitch Pokemon there is, right?
Well, using AR, I tampered with the game, and found the most conventional (and easier) way to catch, and know their moves and Dex entries. Would you like to hear my proposition? ~ Blitzamirin ~ 04:36, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Well, we aren't interested in glitches that can only be obtained via cheating. But if you can get their stats, moves, etc. via cheating device (as long as these would also be their normal moves), then that would be great. Please give your proposition. --SnorlaxMonster 05:00, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, in Red and Blue, I found I way to get the glitch Pokemon much easier than using "transfer hassle". It involves AR, but the goal is to write stats and moves, and that's precisely what these codes do. However, I have no computer, and so comes my proposition that someone else should do it (or I can wait for my computer to get fixed). Yell at me if it doesn't conform to Pedia standards:
The best way to do this is by Emu. Now, simply get AR codes regarding index no. (I won't list sites for warning prevention). Now, these AR codes have been made by looking at the index no. in the game data, so we can begin with Rhydon, and end with Victreebel. However, we want to go beyond those, we want to go to the index numbers which regenerate Trainers and Pokemon that freeze the game. Simply input said index code. Now, we input a code and begin catching.
However, as said, these freeze the game, and so are uncatchable, what do? You should input a "Catch Trainer Pokemon" code. Now, implying we are using Emus, we enable the Glitch Pokemon/Trainer you are going to catch, but freezes the game code and the Catch Trainer Pokemon code (total 2 codes). Now, outside of Battle, enter the bag and select a Poke Ball (preferably Master), and select "use"...
Now, see what just happened? What happens is that the used ball will perform a glitchy animation, and you will catch the aforementioned glich Poke. You can set levels to ensure Base Stats, and moves. I found many Glitch Pokemon like so, but I really cannot do anything. If any Bulbapedian wants to try, please do. If this is against the rules, ban me. I did everything I could, and this can potentially change the look of "Project Glitchdex". Thank you for reading. ~ Blitzamirin ~ 05:47, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Obtaining glitch Pokémon via cheating this way isn't really anything new, but if you are willing to obtain them all this way and get their base stats, movesets etc. then go ahead. We won't note that these glitches can be obtained by cheating on the pages though - that is just common sense, and only actual glitches count. What you're doing is just getting the end result of the Johto guard glitch or remaining HP glitch without bothering with the process.
- As for actually getting the data by obtaining the glitches this way, you would probably be able to do some reverse maths to find out their base stats by manipulating their IVs and changing their levels. Moves would be easy - just use Rare Candies to level through every level from 1 to 100, then use the AR to go to level 101 (meaning that we won't know what move it learns at level 101, which would need to be investigated the normal way) and leveling with Rare Candies through to level 255, since Pokémon can exceed level 100 due to the Pokémon merge glitch. --SnorlaxMonster 06:15, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
XD/Colo Glitch Pokemon
Is there any glitch pokemon in those games? Savelijah 17:26, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
- Munchlax might count. It has an index number and it's still a Normal-type in XD, but it can't be used in battle and doesnt have a battle model (only an overworld model). Game freezes if you try. XVuvuzela2010X 19:17, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
digi skull
i recently was playing my platnum game with the action replay and my friend told me to breed my duskull with my porygon. well i got 5 eggs after 1 hour. so after about a week, all the eggs hached. the first 2 were normal male duskulls, the seconed 2 were shiny female duskulls, and the fith egg hatched into something odd.it had the face of a duskull but with a green eye, and its body was a glowing hexagon.its name registered as duskull, but i've decided to call it digiskull(as in digital duskull)it only knows 2 moves, thunderbolt & nightshade, and when ever it battles a metal type or electric type, it instantly deals 50% damage. - unsigned comment from Mailjesuru7 (talk • contribs)
- You can't even breed Duskull and Porygon. Porygon can only breed with Ditto. Also, you didn't actually upload your image. --SnorlaxMonster 01:20, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
This is exclusive to me, right?

Background peek glitch
Sometimes, whenever my game Card is removed, 90% of the time the game freezes normally. But the other 10 percent of the time, I just get freaky glitchy graphics. Staits turn into ramps. The tables with umbrelas in Undella Town went totally red. Trees, grass, and people disappear. What the shoe-heel is happening? - unsigned comment from AWild------Appeareed (talk • contribs)
- Anything that happens due to removing the game card or cartridge during play isn't notable. --SnorlaxMonster 07:12, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Notability
What are the notability requirements for glitch Pokémon in each generation? It seems that this is the way:
- Generation I: All glitch Pokémon that are available without cheating
- Generation II: All are notable, because they are all glitch Pokémon that are available without cheating
- Generation III: All glitch Pokémon that are available with and without cheating
- Generation IV: All glitch Pokémon that are available with and without cheating
- Generation V: All glitch Pokémon that are available with and without cheating
But this discussion has brought up many new "glitch Pokémon" which are simply Pokéstar Studios Pokémon. A video (made with an translation patch) here shows them. Are they notable for their own articles, or should they remain a minor detail? --Abcboy (talk) 16:16, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
- No, I don't think anything cheating-exclusive should be considered a glitch Pokémon. However, I'm also hesistant to just delete information that is already there. It also causes issues with the index umber lists, as they are important as placeholder Pokémon. --SnorlaxMonster 06:50, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
- Cheat-only glitch Pokémon should absolutely be included in the database. Game hacking devices don't add new coding to a game--they reach into areas of the coding that weren't implemented in the finished product, or reassign existing values. Those Pokémon are in the game cartridge as placeholder values, and thus officially exist as glitches. Granted, the priority should be on glitch Pokémon which can be obtained by exploiting gameplay glitches, but when the database is in such a state that all known glitch Pokémon of that nature have more than stubs dedicated to them, there's no harm in making some headway on the thousands of placeholder-entry glitch Pokémon. - Xelrog T. A wild Egg appeared [uhhh]
Ummm...so...I was messing around and all with my emulator (using cheats...) and encountered "Egg" It looks umm...messed up...Egg[1]... well, i guess its important to know what i did... I used an action replay with the following cheats: -Wild Pokemon Modifier -[UK]900x Item Slot 1 (items bag part)
Then: 1. I activated the Pokemon modifier cheat (slot 1: 649 Masterballs (pokemon); slot 2: 100 Ultra Balls (Level)) 2. Activated the 900x Item Slot 1 Cheat (slot 1: 900 Masterballs) 3. Tossed Masterballs to leave it equal to "650" 4. Activated the encounter part of the wild pokemon modifier cheat 5. "A wild Egg appeared"
It sorta looks like a giant floating Silcoon/Cascoon with who knows what by it... It has the cry of the pokemon Jynx And also it seems to die instantly once you attack it [Is this enough information?] My expression: "What the..."

- It's a beta version of the Pokéstar Studios opponent UFO. We know about it, but we don't have much besides that. --Abcboy (talk) 05:13, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Mythbustin' is done!
Guys, after extensive research i figured some things:-
- Missingno could be a baby kanghaskan.I mean, it evolves into kanghaskan and could evolve into cubone with a kanghaskan skull or something.if u can cheat to get it and try to evolve it ythat would really help.
- its name could stand for 'missing number' so it could lack some code.that explains it coming.it wasn't fully removed.
- I have a firered game that is totally bad. When naming yourself or a pokemon u cant see the letters.only see the houses in a city and the people and pokemon look like missingno. routes are empty and grass is only seen when walking over it.did it get hacked or something.it was like this from the start.
- 2 words-Buried alive - unsigned comment from Littleroot leader shravan(ability leader) (talk • contribs)
- Missingno. could not possibly be baby Kangaskhan. I know this is a popular rumor, but it is absolute garbage. The first problem here is that Missingno. does not evolve into Kangaskhan; that is 'M (00), another glitch Pokémon that has the same sprite as Missingno. In regards to 'M (00) being baby Kangaskhan, that is untrue as well: 'M (00) evolves into Clefairy as well, so that is just as significant as evolving into Kangaskhan, and the only property it has the even resembles a baby Kangaskhan is that it evolves into Kangaskhan (which I just pointed out proves nothing).
- The string "MISSINGNO." is an error handler. Missingno. is 39 different Pokémon slots that have been wiped, so when called they use the error handler name. Missingno. does come from "Missing Number"—everyone knows that and it is on the article.
- You've probably got a modded game.
- Buried alive is a pointless creepypasta with nothing to do with Project GlitchDex. --SnorlaxMonster 06:50, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
