Electric rodents
From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.
Electric Rodents is a fan term used to refer to the eight Electric type Pokémon that are based on Rodents, that have been introduced in every Generation since the beginning of the series. These are-Pikachu and Raichu from Generation I,Pichu from Generation II,Plusle and Minun from Generation III,Pachirisu from Generation IV, Emolga from Generation V, and Dedenne from Generation VI.
They have some traits in common other than their origin:
- Apart from the Pikachu Family line, or in other words since Generation III, all of these Pokémon are incapable to evolve in or from any other Pokémon.
- Aside from Raichu, they have the lowest base stat of all fully evolved Electric type Pokémon.
- Since the Diamond & Pearl series, a female companion of Ash has one of them in her Party- Dawn caught a Pachirisu in theDiamond & Pearl series , Iris caught an Emolga in the Best Wishes series, and Bonnie has a Dedenne that her brother caught for her in the XY series.
- They are all in either the Fairy or Field egg groups, or in both.

Most of the Rodents Electric have been featured in pretty dominants rolls in the anime:
- Pikachu
- Ash Ketchum, the main protagonist of the entire anime, obtained a Pikachu as a starter from Professor Oak in Pokémon - I Choose You!, the first episode of the Pokémon anime series and traveled with it ever-since. Pikachu was also the version mascot & only starter Pokémon of Pokémon Yellow, a game highly based on the anime. Pikachu itself is popularly known as the mascot of the Pokémon franchise and a major representative of Nintendo's collective mascots.
- Ash's Pikachu also starts in the ongoing mini-anime Pikachu shorts that has been mostly before movies, as the main protagonist without Ash.
- Other major appearances of Pikachu includes Sparky, Ritchie's Pikachu, and Pikachutwo- a clone that was made by Mewtwo in the first movie.
- Raichu
- Raichu first major appearance was under Lt. Surge, the Gym Leader of Vermilion City- He used one to battle Ash's Pikachu and was able to easily defeat it. After discussing evolution with Pikachu to match Raichu's power, Pikachu denied it, so Ash used a strategy relying on Pikachu's speed to defeat Raichu the next day. Another episode focusing on the battle between a stronger Raichu and Pikachu happened in Pika and Goliath! in the Diamond & Pearl series.
- Raichu was also featured in the first Pikachu Short Pikachu's Vacation again as a "rival" to Ash's Pikachu.
- Pichu
- Pichu first appeared in as a pair called Pichu Brothers in Pikachu & Pichu. Other dominant Pichu were the Spiky-eared Pichu which appeared in the 12th movie, as an event Pokémon at Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver and in the the fourth ending song to the Diamond & Pearl series together with Pikachu-colored Pichu;Ukulele Pichu appeared in the Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs Anime Special, and was captured by Ben in the concluding part.

- Plusle debuted alongside Minun in A Different Kind of Misty!. Both Pokémon were owned by Thatcher. The same Plusle and Minun appear again in Cheer Pressure, where Thatcher is training them to be cheerleaders.
- They have always been featured together in the anime, except when Ranger Solana uses her Plusle.
- Pachirisu
- Dawn caught a Pachirisu as her third Pokémon In Sinnoh in Twice Smitten, Once Shy, and used it through her quest.
- It marked the first time since Pikachu that a main character has ever owned an Electric-type Pokémon, a trait that re-happened later on.
- Emolga
- Iris caught a Emolga as her third Pokémon In Unova in Emolga the Irresistible!, and used it through her quest.
- Elesa used an Emolga in her gym match against Ash in Dazzling the Nimbasa Gym!.
- Dedenne
- Ash, Clemont and Bonnie first encountered Dedenne in XY003 on their way toSantalune City. Bonnie was eager to care for the cute Pokémon, and asked Clemont to catch it for her. Clemont agreed, and finally did it when it reappeared and befriended Pikachu in XY004.
