Player Search System
- PSS redirects here. For the system that allows Pokémon to be stored in boxes, see Pokémon Storage System.
The Player Search System (Japanese: プレイヤーサーチシステム), or PSS for short, is an item that appears in Generation VI and is the Pokémon X and Y version of the C-Gear. It has many different functions, including the GTS, Wonder Trade, O-Powers, and more.
The main window of the PSS divides other players in three categories: Friends, Acquaintances, and Passersby. A Passerby will automatically become an Acquaintance if a Battle or Trade (including Wonder Trades) is made with him/her: after trading or battling with a player already in the Acquaintances, a prompt to add them to the Friends group will appear.
Players in the Friends group are registered as friends in the 3DS's friend list, and vice versa. When a player is registered as a Friend, his/her Safari can be accessed (even if he/she doesn't have a copy of Pokémon X/Y).
Global Trade System
- Main article: Global Trade System
In Generation VI, the Global Trade Station can now be accessed in many more places than just Pokémon Centers in Generation V or the Global Terminal/GTS building in Generation IV. Unlike in previous generations, the player can now ask for Pokémon that have not yet been registered in the player's Pokédex.
Wonder Trade
- Main article: Wonder Trade
Wonder Trade allows players to trade Pokémon for another one without even knowing what he or she is going to get. This means that using Wonder Trade is both an advantage and a risk. The player can easily earn Poké Miles and more ID numbers this way, giving them a better chance of winning prizes at the ID Lottery in Lumiose City, as well as get a very rare Pokémon, but they can also get weak and/or common Pokémon in exchange for the stronger and/or rarer Pokémon they offered. Eggs cannot be traded in Wonder Trade.
O-Powers
O-Powers are very similar to Pass Powers, as they give power-ups, increase or decrease the chances of things happening, and can be shared with other players that are either nearby or connected online. In addition, if another player uses one while connected online or within wireless distance, the player can tap their glowing icon to use it as well. At the lowest rate of O-Power regeneration, it takes 4 minutes to fill an entire circle. During special distribution periods, players can receive special O-Powers by playing their games at a Pokémon Center store; O-Power S is exclusive to this method, although the O-Powers given out are not always S.
The O-Power meter regenerates more quickly based on the number of steps counted for the current day on the user's 3DS. The user does not need to have the game running while they accumulate steps on their 3DS. This bonus can be seen as a number next to the clock by the power meter. Because the step counter resets at midnight, this regeneration bonus also resets at midnight. The thresholds are as follows:
Regeneration rate | |
---|---|
0-1999 steps | 1× regeneration rate |
2000-2999 steps | 2× regeneration rate |
3000-3999 steps | 3× regeneration rate |
4000+ steps | 4× regeneration rate |
O-Powers are given to the player by Mr. Bonding. They can be upgraded by frequent usage. It takes 10 uses of a Level 1 O-Power to be upgraded to a Level 2 O-Power. Each level after the previous one will provide a more significant effect but cost more energy to activate.
