Trivia
- Mairin's Mega Evolution Journal: Mega Rayquaza
- Ash and Team Rocket read the title card for this episode.
- Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie narrate the preview for the next episode.
- The title card for this episode focuses on Team Rocket for the first time.
- This is another time where Pokémon Quiz segment features a Pokémon that has already been featured. In this case, Malamar was featured 35 episodes ago.
- One of the flashback scenes with James and Inkay features James disguising Inkay as Pikachu while wearing an Ash disguise himself. This scene takes place during Heroes - Friends and Faux Alike!, although it was never seen in the said episode.
- James's Inkay remains outside of its Poké Ball throughout the episode.
- Once There Were Greenfields, in which James gave Gardenia his Cacnea, was also the 54th episode of its series and featured one of James's Pokémon. If James had left Inkay with the group of good Malamar, both episodes would share the coincidence of its number and the fact that both had James parting with one of his Pokémon.
Errors
- The evil Malamar's Psychic was used to levitate Inkay despite Inkay being immune to Psychic-type moves.
- The good Malamar's Psycho Cut were able to damage the evil Malamar despite Psychic-type moves having no effect on Dark-type Pokémon.
- During one of the flashback scenes with James and Inkay features James disguising Inkay as Pikachu while wearing an Ash disguise himself, his hair is colored grey just like his gloves instead of dark cyan.
