A Team Flare Grunt (Japanese: フレア団のしたっぱ Team Flare Underling) is a type of Pokémon Trainer introduced in Generation VI. They are members of Team Flare who are dressed in red business suits and sport hairstyles resembling wisps of fire; however, two Team Flare Grunts dressed as a Garçon and a Waitress can be battled in Lysandre Café after Lysandre announces that he and his Grunts will launch the ultimate weapon. In the Pokémon Adventures manga, they also don other disguises, including as an innkeeper and an editor-in-chief.
They use a combination of Fire-, Dark-, Poison-, Fighting-, and Electric-type Pokémon.

Team Flare Grunts made their debut in X-actly What They Wanted. They have been frequently used to attack X and his friends in order to obtain X's Mega Ring to power Team Flare's ultimate weapon.
Pokémon
Spritzee belonged to a member of Team Flare that was disguised as an innkeeper. When Y went to talk to X, the innkeeper had her Spritzee attack Y to prevent her from leaving the inn. Y's Fletchy broke the window for Y, allowing her to escape while it stayed behind to battle Spritzee. Eventually, Fletchy won and defeated both Spritzee and the innkeeper.
None of Spritzee's moves are known.
Debut | X & Y chapter |

These two Noibat were used at the Super Training dome. One was used to attack X's group from the air, but it was driven away by Kanga and Li'l Kanga's Thunderbolt. Later, two Grunts used both Noibat to attack X's group once again. They attack Y in the air, leaving her at a disadvantage. With their supersonic waves, the Noibat prevented the group's voices from reaching their Pokémon, which prevented them from helping Y. By having Chespin pop a Wailmer balloon, the Noibat and their Trainers were sent flying when the balloon crashed into them as it deflated.
None of Noibat's moves are known.
Debut | X & Y chapter |
---|
Sliggoo was used by two Grunts at the Fun Minigame Corner. It attacked Y while she was trying to bond with her Eevee, Vuivui. With its acidic slime, it burned through Y's helmet and nearly melted her. Vuivui battled against Sliggoo, but was no match until it evolved into a Sylveon, thus becoming immune to Sliggoo's attacks. Vuivui defeated Sliggoo by draining its health with Draining Kiss and send the two Grunts flying.
None of Sliggoo's moves are known.
Debut | Pangoro Poses a Problem |
---|
Pangoro was used by the Lumiose Press editor-in-chief to kill Alexa to prevent the truth about the Vaniville Town incident from getting into the public. She was saved by X, who used Kanga and Li'l Kanga to battle Pangoro. Pangoro managed to hold its own, but it eventually took an exhausted Marisso and Salamè as hostages. This proved to be its downfall, as X had Salamè let go of the tail it usually holds, which caused the flames to burn the leaf in Pangoro's mouth, weakening it. Kanga and Li'l Kanga then easily defeated Pangoro and sent it flying out of the Prism Tower's windows, leaving it to crash into the ground below.
None of Pangoro's moves are known.

Two Spewpa were used by the Lumiose Press editor-in-chief to stop X from protecting Alexa. With their Rage Powder, the Spewpa prevented X's Marisso and Salamè from listening to X's commands. Eventually, both were defeated, but X's Pokémon were left exhausted afterward.
Spewpa's only known move is Rage Powder.
Debut | Fast-Thinking Froakie |
---|
Tyrunt was first used by a Grunt on Route 5. They attempted to collect a Manectite hidden in a tree, but an Electrike happened to lead X and his friends to the same tree. The Mega Stone was found and taken by Clemont, but the Grunt had Tyrunt chew through the tree and have it crash on top of Clemont, leaving it open to be stolen. X pursued the Tyrunt, but it also managed to steal Kanga's Kangaskhanite as well.
Tyrunt's only known move is Earthquake.
Debut | Overthrowing a Tyrunt |
---|
The Grunt that stole the Manectite also owned four Espurr, each with a different expression on its face. They were used to try and stop X from pursuing the Grunt and Tyrunt, but Y, Shauna, and Tierno sent their Pokémon out to let X and Trevor advance. Cassius later helps them, catching three of them with his Gourgeist. The fourth and last Espurr was later found and taken in by Emma.
None of their moves are known.
Debut | PAORAS08 |
---|
The Lumiose Press editor-in-chief was also seen with a Spinda. It was briefly seen with the editor-in-chief while he spied on Gabby and Ty.
None of Spinda's moves are known.
