In the Beginning

• After obtaining the Fen Badge, talk to the Galactic Grunt near the Great Marsh building to find out that he has a bomb. After he runs, try to follow him, but your rival will appear and challenge you. After defeating your rival, continue to chase the Grunt around until reaching Valor Lakefront, where you will battle. After you defeat him and he runs off for the last time, Cynthia will appear at the lake entrance and give you the SecretPotion to cure the headaches of the Psyduck blocking Route 210.

  • Cure the Psyduck and get the Old Charm from Cynthia

  • Battle Galactic Grunt outside ruins
  • Give Old Charm to Cynthia's grandmother
  • Enter ruins, view painting, and get HM03 (Surf) from Cynthia's grandmother

Galactic Scheme

• Route 218 (west of Jubilife)
  • Rowan's assistant (Lucas/Dawn's father) upgrades your Pokédex to display Pokémon's forms in the Canalave gatehouse

  • Battle rival on the bridge
  • Pt: Get HM04 (Strength) at Iron Island
  • Defeat Byron for the Mine Badge, unlocking Strength
  • Meet Rowan, his assistant, and your rival in Canalave Library to experience the explosion at Lake Valor.
• Battle Saturn at Lake Valor
• Battle Mars at Lake Verity

  • Surf, Rock Climb, Strength, and Rock Smash are required.
• Spear Pillar
  • Diamond & Pearl:
    • Cyrus summons Dialga^D/Palkia^P.
    • Last chance to save before battling Cyrus!
    • Double-battle Mars & Jupiter with rival.
    • Rival heals your party and leaves.
    • Uxie, Mesprit, & Azelf appear, free Dialga/Palkia, and leave.
    • Battle Cyrus.
    • Team Galactic leaves (including all of the grunts in Mt. Coronet).
    • Rowan & Lucas/Dawn enter, telling you to stop Dialga/Palkia.
    • Last chance to save before battling the version mascot!
    • Capture/defeat Dialga/Palkia.
  • Platinum:
    • Cyrus summons Dialga and Palkia.
    • Double-battle Mars & Jupiter with rival.
    • Giratina drags Cyrus into the Distortion World.
    • Journey into the Distortion World yourself.
    • Battle Cyrus.
    • Capture/defeat Giratina.
    • Exit the Distortion World at Turnback Cave.

Aftermath

  • Defeat Volkner for the Beacon Badge, unlocking Waterfall

• Pt: Deal with Charon at Stark Mountain.
• Catch 'em all
  • In Platinum, Dialga & Palkia can be captured by acquiring both the Adamant and Lustrous Orbs in Mt. Coronet, talking to Cynthia's grandmother in Celestic, and then returning to Spear Pillar to face the level 70 Pokémon.
• Get a diploma for completing the National Pokédex from the Game Freak director at Hotel Grand Lake
