Origin
Eternatus is based on Thanatos the greek god that symbolizes death. Due to its poison sub-typing, Eternatus is also based on the Bubonic plague or Black Death, an devastating pandemic that once wiped out 30% to 60% of Europe's population. Also, its dragon-like motif is reminiscent of the dragon Saint George had slain during the 11th-12th century.
Name origin
Eternatus may be a combination of eternal, aeternatus (Latin for immortalized), and Thanatus (Latin transliteration of Thanatos).
Mugendaina may be a combination of 無限大 mugendai (infinity), ダイマックス Daimax (Dynamax) and possibly dynamic.
