Arceus (Japanese: アルセウス Arceus) is a Pokémon and the titular character of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It is said to have created the Sinnoh region, previously known as Hisui, along with the lake guardians and creation trio. The Mythical Pokémon's existence is hinted at in the Sinnoh-based games, in which it was initially meant to appear through an event, but this event was never officially released.

In the games

Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl

Arceus is hinted at in Sinnoh myths. In Generation IV, there is an unused event in which Arceus can be battled and caught at the Hall of Origin, however, the Azure Flute, which was required to access the Hall of Origin, was never distributed.

Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver

If the unobtainable Arceus from the unreleased Azure Flute event is traded to HeartGold and SoulSilver, it can trigger the Sinjoh Ruins event. With both the Hall of Origin Arceus and an event Arceus, the player could have visited the Sinjoh Ruins twice, and obtained two different members of the creation trio.

Officially, the Sinjoh Ruins can only be visited once, with an event Arceus representing the movie Arceus and the Jewel of Life.

Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon

It is implied that Type: Null was based on Arceus after researching Sinnoh myths from Canalave Library.

At the beginning of the game, Arceus sends the player character back in time to the Hisui region, transforms their mobile phone into the Arc Phone, and gives them the mission to "seek out all Pokémon".

After every non-Mythical Pokémon in the Hisui Pokédex is obtained, the player can play the Azure Flute at the Temple of Sinnoh, and meet Arceus in the Hall of Origin. Arceus will then battle the player, and the player must throw Mysterious Balms at it. When Arceus is defeated, it will give the player a "piece of itself" and the Legend Plate. Arceus joins the player in a standard Hisuian Poké Ball. This completes Arceus's single research task in the Pokédex. Arceus can be rematched by playing the Azure Flute at the Temple of Sinnoh again.

Hall of Origin
"Dodogyuuun!"

Legends: Arceus

Beginning of the game
"Welcome to my realm, located beyond both time and space. It is well that thou art here. I am that which humans call Arceus."
"Now, I wish to know thine appearance."
"What is thy name?"
"All is correct and as it should be?"
"<player>... Soon thou shalt find thyself in a world strange to thee... A world inhabited by wondrous creatures that humans call “Pokémon.” <player>... Seek out all Pokémon, and thou shalt find me once more."
Arc Phone
  • After obtaining
"I bestow upon thee this Arc Phone and thy mission: seek out all Pokémon."
  • Multiple occasions during the game
"Seek out all Pokémon."
Hall of Origin
"Thou hast done well to seek out all Pokémon. Unflagging devotion to a goal shalt see it through... So hast thou proven by thine actions. Much as that ancient hero once did. He and the Pokémon that walked beside him. To see such truths proven anew, beyond the bounds of time and space, bringeth joy to me. I am glad that I chose thee to call to this world. As thou walkest onward upon thine own path... Upon thee...and upon this creation where thou now dwellest... I bestow my blessing. And I bestow upon thee a part of myself. I would walk this world together with thee. Show me how it appeareth in thine eyes."
