Ash's Talonflame learning Flamethrower

Ok, I understand the rules about not assuming moves and I admit the moves used by Ash's water and grass-types are a touch too nebulous to really confirm... but I can't understand their being any doubt that Ash's Talonflame used Flamethrower alongside his other fire-types. Flamethrower has had pretty much the same animation since the show began (a continuous stream of fire), there's no other fire-type moves that match that animation (can anyone really argue that it could have been Ember or Fire Blast) and Talonflame used it directly alongside all of Ash's other fire-types who all know Flamethrower.
