Running from Shiny Pokémon in Gen II
I tested your recent edit to the Shiny Pokémon page in Gold, Silver, and Crystal. It appears you can indeed run from Shiny Pokémon in all three versions, your edit wasn't accurate. You can't run from certain Legendary and Mythical encounters, like Celebi for example, regardless of whether they're Shiny or not, so maybe that's where the confusion came from? - May I ask how you tested it? I first tried running away from the red gyrarados, which 100% does not work, and then used a gameshark code to always encounter shiny pokémon, which led to this result: https://imgur.com/a/bJUuXbX
- I was actually slightly afraid the code would borrow from the red gyarados's routine to spawn a shiny and not let me run away only because of it, but decided it was a very unlikely scenario, but according to your comment, it seems like it's just what may have happened...
- Still, I have to ask, how'd you manage to test this on a shiny that fast without using cheat codes? Cipocreep (talk) 13:51, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- From personal experience I have run away from Shiny Pokémon in Generation II and I checked places like gamefaqs, older youtube videos about shiny hunting in generation II, and reddit as well and read a lot of people running away from Shiny Pokémon and only a handful of cases where people were not able to run away from Shinies at all. That said, there are also a handful of Pokémon one can encounter in Generation II that have a 10% chance (Magnemite, Grimer, Tangela, Mr. Mime, Dratini, Dragonair, Unown, Snubbul, Heracross) and 50% chance (Cubone, Quagsire, Teddiursa, Delibird, Phanpy) of running away even if they are Shiny. - That's fine and all, but that's not exactly reproducible evidence that could help us come to a definitive conclusion.
- If you have a video of someone running away from a shiny (or failling to do so), or one you took yourself, that would help settle the issue, but only replying with hearsay from places full of misinformation doesn't really help us reach a conclusion. Cipocreep (talk) 14:59, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
