Hatenna first appeared in HZ021, where she was seeking shelter from a storm in a forest on Route 3. Finding a safe spot in a mountain hut, she fell asleep in a box. When Liko, Roy, and Friede also sought shelter in the hut the following day, they found Hatenna. Liko felt that something wasn't right with Hatenna and brought her to the Brave Asagi for Mollie to check out. Mollie deduced that nothing was wrong with Hatenna physically, and that she was likely just feeling down. Liko volunteered to look after Hatenna, but she ended up running away after sensing Dot express strong emotions. Liko, Roy, and Dot sought Hatenna all over the airship, with Liko eventually finding her on the observation deck. She told Hatenna that she also liked to come to the same place because it's quiet and peaceful. Thanks to Liko's calm emotions, Hatenna started to feel comfortable around her and slept in her room for the night. The next day, Liko, Roy, and Friede brought Hatenna back to where they had found her. She started to hesitantly leave, but Sprigatito convinced her to not go. Jumping into Liko's arms, Hatenna expressed her newfound desire of coming with her, which Liko happily agreed to, catching her with a Poké Ball received from Friede.
Hatenna, as true to her species, can pick up the emotions of both people and Pokémon. Hatenna has also shown to be relaxed when she is around calm emotions, but can get overwhelmed when people or Pokémon show strong emotions. In addition, Hatenna is shy and sensitive, often hiding away whenever she tries to interact with others. However, she would end up forming a bond with Liko and Sprigatito, becoming unwilling to leave their side. She is also very comfortable resting in Liko's hood.
