Snore (Japanese: いびき Snore) is a damage-dealing Normal-type move introduced in Generation II. It was TM13 in Generation II and TM24 in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Effect

Snore can only be used if the user is currently asleep; otherwise, it will fail. Snore inflicts damage and has a 30% chance of causing the target to flinch.

A Komala with the Ability Comatose is also treated as an asleep Pokémon, and can successfully use Snore (or Sleep Talk) without having this status condition.

Snore will have its power boosted by 30% when used by a Pokémon with the Ability Punk Rock. The damage dealt by Snore will also be halved when used against a Pokémon with Punk Rock.

A Pokémon affected by Throat Chop is unable to use this move for two turns; if it has no other usable moves, it will use Struggle.

Snore will become a Water-type move when used by a Pokémon with the Ability Liquid Voice.

If the user is holding a Throat Spray, the item will be consumed and the user's Special Attack stat will be raised by one stage.

Pokémon with the Ability Soundproof are not affected by this move.

Generation II

Snore has a base power of 40.

Snore is affected by King's Rock.

Generation III

If Sleep Talk or Snore is used at least once consecutively in the turns right before switching out, the Pokémon will sleep for the same amount of turns as were remaining prior to the usage of those two moves when switched back in.

Snore can be used as the second move of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 4 bonus appeal points if Rest was used in the previous turn.

Generation IV

Turns where Snore is used are always counted towards waking the Pokémon.

Generation V

Snore is no longer affected by King's Rock.

Generation VI onwards

Snore's power changed from 40 to 50.

Snore can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if Rest was used in the prior turn.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon

Snore deals damage and may cause the enemy to flinch. Using it manually will have no effect, and the move will only work when the user is asleep. The move cannot be linked.

In the Rescue Team and Explorers series, Snore will automatically be used if the Pokémon is asleep and attacked. Although it has a range of one tile, it will still trigger if the attacker is out of range. It is unaffected by the cowering and flinching (cringing) status conditions, but is affected by the Muzzled status condition. Being a sound-based move, it is blocked by Soundproof. This move will always be picked over Sleep Talk.

In Super Mystery Dungeon, Snore is now automatically triggered when the user is asleep and an enemy is adjacent to the user. If both Sleep Talk and Snore are available in the Pokémon's moveset, the move which is listed first will be selected.

Games Description
MDRB If the user is attacked while asleep, it counterattacks. It may also cause the target to cringe, making it incapable of action.
MDTDS Lets the user counterattack if hit while sleeping. The counterattack may also afflict the opposing enemy with a Cringe status condition, which makes actions fail. This move has no effect if the Pokémon is awake.
