City names is a type of playthrough performed by Rockapheller in the main series Pokémon games. In each playthrough, the player character is named after a city, and the regular party members are nicknamed after a specific theme. For instance, during the first playthrough of this theme, which as a copy of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the player character was named Athens, the capital of Greece. The Pokémon in the party were named after Greek gods and goddesses in the Greek mythology.
The alternative playthrough is Brandt where the male player character only catches Pokémon that correspond to the game of the generation it is based on. His female counterpart is Brandy who follows the same rules as Brandt except the Pokémon Brandt has already trained.
Trivia
- Out of 18 available types, so far only 8 types have been trained in city names runs.
- Most trained type is water, with 3.
- The player characters during the city runs do not have any restrictions in terms of regular party members, except the Pokémon that have already been trained by Brandt and Brandy.
- Out of 6 Pokémon, 5 are male and 1 is female.
