Cooking is a core mechanic in Pokémon Sleep that allows the player to raise their Snorlax.

Overview

Cooking is one of the primary methods by which players can raise their Snorlax's Strength. The player can feed Snorlax up to three times a day: once for breakfast (6 am to 12 pm), once for lunch (12 pm to 6 pm), and once for dinner (6 pm to 6 am). These times are all set based on the player's current time zone.

The types of dishes the player can make depend on what kind of meals their Snorlax has requested for the week. There are three recipe types: curries/stews, salads, and desserts/drinks, each of which includes 16 different recipes.

At the beginning, the only option for the player on the cooking menu is the "Auto Cook" function. Selecting Auto Cook will pick random ingredients from the player's inventory—up to either the pot's maximum size or the total number of ingredients in the player's inventory, whichever is lower—and cook a dish from them. The player can use the "Ingredient Options" button to select up to three ingredients that will not be used in auto cooking; otherwise, the player has no control over the dish made when using the Auto Cook function.

Once the player registers 12 sleep styles in their Sleep Style Dex, the option to "Choose a Recipe" is unlocked. This will bring the player to their recipe list, which includes all the recipes that the player can make that week. Dishes that the player has made before are listed with their name, image, required ingredients, and current strength, while dishes that the player has never made are listed as "Curry/stew recipe", "Salad recipe", or "Dessert/drink recipe", depending on the weekly meal request. The only other information the player is given about these unmade recipes is how many of each ingredient is required to make the dish; the ingredients themselves are not shown. In addition, the player has the option to cook without choosing a recipe at all.

Once the player selects a recipe, all the ingredients for that recipe will be thrown into the pot. The player then has the option to add as many other ingredients as they like until the pot is full. The player can also remove ingredients from the pot, allowing them to make any dish they like regardless of what recipe was selected. If the player chooses to start cooking before the pot is filled completely, the game offers to pick random ingredients from their remaining inventory to fill the pot. Any ingredients added in this way will not change the final dish. However, the player is free to decline the offer.

If the player uses a a combination of ingredients that do not combine to make any of these recipes, the resulting dish will be either a Mixed Curry, a Mixed Salad, or a Mixed Juice, depending on which type of recipes the player is making.

While the dish is cooking, a sleep tip will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. The player can tap the screen to speed up the rate of cooking, with more taps required when there are more ingredients in the pot. Occasionally, an exclamation mark will appear above the pot at the end of cooking; this indicates that the dish is "extra tasty", meaning that the dish's strength will be much greater than usual. The probability of a dish being extra tasty appears to be completely random, but it seems to occur more often on Sunday.

The strength of the dish is calculated by summing up the current strength of the recipe and the base strengths of all the ingredients added to the pot that are not included in the recipe. This is then multiplied by the player's area bonus for the current research area and rounded down to get the final strength. If the dish is extra tasty on Monday-Saturday, the final strength will be doubled. If the dish is extra tasty on Sunday, the final strength will be tripled.

Pot size

By default, the cooking pot can hold up to 15 ingredients. After the player registers 35 sleep styles, the ability to expand the cooking pot is unlocked. Tapping the cooking pot on the home screen allows the player to pay Dream Shards to expand the size of their cooking pot. The following table lists the pot sizes and their expansion costs:

Size Cost Availability
15 0 Default
18 1,200 Dream Shards After registering 35 sleep styles
21 2,700 Dream Shards
24 4,100 Dream Shards After registering 70 sleep styles
27 6,600 Dream Shards
30 8,600 Dream Shards After registering 110 sleep styles
33 13,300 Dream Shards

The cooking pot's maximum size can also be temporarily expanded in three ways:

  • The main skill Cooking Power-Up S expands the maximum size of the cooking pot by 7 the next time the player cooks a meal for Snorlax. The expansion size increases as the main skill's level increases.
  • A Good Camp Set increases the size of the cooking pot by 50% of its size for the duration of its effect.
  • On the last day of the week, Sunday, the size of the cooking pot is doubled (from its permanent size) for all meals.

The Good Camp Set bonus is applied after other temporary bonuses, and the result is rounded up. For example, if the permanent pot size is 27 and Cooking Power-Up S Lv. 2 is applied while a Good Camp Set is active, the final size of the pot will be 56 ((27+10)×1.5=56). The maximum size that the cooking pot can be expanded to via these methods is 200.
