A Player's Trainer Passport in Sun and Moon

A Trainer Passport is a screen from the menu in Pokémon Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. It is effectively the Alolan replacement of a Trainer Card from previous games, although it gauges progression in different ways. Like a Trainer Card, it will display a Trainer's name, Trainer ID number, gender, Pokémon found in the Pokédex, and money. Additionally it will list their stamps and BP count. The player can view their character model and retake their passport photo.

On file select, the player's Trainer card changes appearances from Sun and Moon to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, however they carry the same information, portrait and game time. Typed Z-Crystals appear on file select replacing badge count.

While functionally the same as a Trainer Card from previous titles, allowing for a form of identification, the Trainer Passport functions as world building for the player who had recently moved from Kanto to Alola. Sun in the Pokémon Sun and Moon Special Demo is seen getting his Trainer Passport from Hau'oli City's Town Hall making him a resident of Hau'oli City. In the full game, the player does not receive their passport at the start of the game, instead they get it when they get their first Pokémon. Professor Kukui creates the passport himself using the portrait the player picked at the start of the game to decide their character appearance.

Stamps

A Stamp is a mark on a Trainer Passport that indicates certain achievements accomplished, similar to the stars of a Trainer Card. They replace multiple functions from previous titles, including Gym Badges, the Trainer Card level system, and the Diplomas indicating Pokédex completion. Stamps gauge the progress of the player along with gauging gameplay balance. These functions include:

  • Marking the player's first step to being a Trainer
  • Halting Pokémon obedience when they reach a certain level, similar to a gym badge. They also indicate when the player has defeated an island kahuna part of their grand trial.
  • Becoming Alola's champion
  • Marking down the accomplishment of completing an island's personal Pokédex or the region's entire Pokédex. Similar to a diploma.
  • Reach a certain win streak in the Battle Tree.
  • Marking accomplishments with the Poké Finder.

list of Stamps

There is a total of 15 stamps in all four Alola-related titles, with 16 different designs.
