Star Cave (Japanese: 洞窟 Star Cave) is a dungeon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. Initially accessible in the Special Episode Bidoof's Wish, it can be unlocked by a challenge request from the Spinda's Café after finishing the Special Episode and acquiring the Secret Rank. At the end of the cave is Star Cave Pit, where Jirachi can be found.

The Star Cave is the focus of Explorers of Sky's kiosk demo, where the player can play as a Lv. 20 pair of either Vulpix and Phanpy or Riolu and Eevee, for the first seven floors.

Gameplay

Star Cave plays slightly differently depending on whether it is accessed through main story or Special Episode; internally these are two separate dungeons. During the main story, it is 15 continuous floors followed by Star Cave Pit where Jirachi can be found. In the Special Episode, it is split into three sections with two boss floors, and also contains rest stops. Otherwise, it is exactly the same dungeon. When not otherwise specified, floors 1 through 7 are Star Cave in Special Episode, floors 8 through 11 are Deep Star Cave and floors 12 through 15 are Star Cave Depths.

As Treasure Boxes cannot be found in this dungeon and the player cannot be rescued when knocked out, only floors past 8 have used job rankings: D, C or B by default, depending on the floor. Internally, floors 1 through 3 are ranked E and floors 4 through 7 are ranked D.

The floors are all large-sized, with following amount of rooms:

  • 3-8 on floors 1, 10 and 15.
  • 3-9 on floors 2 and 9
  • 3-10 on floors 3, 8, 11 and 14
  • 3-11 on floors 4, 7 and 13
  • 3-12 floors on 5, 6 and 12

There's 4-7 items on the ground on first three floors and 3-6 items on later floors. There's also 2-5 items buried in the walls. There's 2-3 starting enemies on each floor. The game will spawn 3-6 Wonder Tiles on floor 2, 3-7 on floor 3 and 4-8 on later floors; none will be spawned on floor 1. It will spawn extra in a Monster House.

The IQ Booster does not work in this dungeon. The turn limit is 1000. There is light darkness in the entire dungeon. There is water on floors 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 and 14. Enemies in this dungeon have 26IQ. There is random weather on floor 14.

Pokémon encountered

In the main story, Deep Star Cave and Star Cave Depths sections do not exist and the dungeon continues normally.

Trivia

  • Interestingly, if Giratina enters this dungeon, it will be in its Origin Forme instead of its Altered Forme. This trait is shared with Sky Peak and Destiny Tower.
  • In Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Jirachi of the Expedition Society mentions that he was born in Star Cave. This reference was missed in the German, Italian, and Spanish translations, where he instead says that he was born in a cave on a star. It is unknown if they are the same individual or not.
