Hypno (Japanese: スリーパー Sleeper) is a Psychic-type Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Hypno is a bipedal human-like Pokémon that has yellow colored skin. It has two fairly cat-like ears on the top of its head and two very sleepy looking eyes with a giant nose underneath. On its neck, it has a mane of white fur. There's not much else particularly notable about Hypno's body. It has five fingers on each hand and three toes on its feet, which has a pink colored pad on the bottom of it.

Gender differences

The fur in a female's mane is longer than a male's mane.

Special abilities

Its special abilities allow it to Template:M2 and then sense the dreams they are having, so they know what kind of dream they would Template:M2. Hypno is also known to inexplicably conjure up Poison Gas.

Behavior

Hypno is known to reside away from humans and on less traveled roads. If anyone comes by, the Hypno will hypnotize it and presumably eat its dreams. It carries around a pendulum, the item it uses to hypnotize victims, everywhere it goes. While it waits for victims, it polishes its pendulum using its mane.

Harrison's Hypno

Hypno first appeared in Hypno's Naptime. The Pokémon Lover's Club of HopHopHop Town were using Hypno and Drowzee to help them with their sleeping problems. The "Sleep Waves" from Hypno were causing children to act like Pokémon and draining the energy off of the Pokémon in the local Pokémon Center. Drowzee managed to fix this problem.

Harrison used a Hypno against Ash during the Silver Conference in Playing with Fire.

Hypno also appears in Fear Factor Phony. It lives in an abandoned mining colony with several other Pokémon of Template:T2.

Trivia

  • Although Hypno's Pokédex entries say that it feeds on dreams when it is hungry, Hypno can only learn the move Dream Eater through the use of a TM.
  • Hypno is shown to have its pendulum in its right hand in its Red, Blue and Yellow sprites. However, Hypno is holding it in its left hand in its Green front sprite and all Generation I back sprites.

Origin

Hypno is based on a tapir, hypnotist, and baku, or dream eater spirit, of Japanese mythology.

Name origin

Hypno's name is a shortening of hypnosis. Its Japanese name is simply Sleeper, or one who sleeps.

In other languages

  • German: Hypno
  • French: Hypnomade - Hypnose means hypnosis, and nomade means nomad.
  • Korean: 슬리퍼 Seullipa
