Route 40
Return to Route 40 and enter the gate on the beach. This leads to the Frontier Access.
Frontier Access
The Frontier Access leads north from Route 40 to the Battle Frontier. It is a small town that sprang up as a staging area for Trainers looking to test their skills in the Battle Frontier. There are also shops where Battle Points may be redeemed. The area is first accessible after entering the Hall of Fame.

First in Line
When you first arrive, you are stopped by someone calling out to you. A man rushes up to you from the gate, upset with himself for falling asleep and missing his chance to be the first one to arrive here. He starts to sob, leaving you to uncomfortably back away as you continue onward.
If spoken to again on a subsequent visit, the man says that he has gotten over his need to be first all of the time. Instead, he seems content with his newest hobby: counting the number of people that visit the Battle Frontier.
Move Tutors
The house in the southwest belongs to three men. Each of these Move Tutors offers a variety of moves that may be taught to compatible Pokémon in exchange for Battle Points. These points are awarded at each Battle Frontier facility by achieving the required length of winning streak.
Battle Frontier
- Main article: Battle Frontier (Generation IV)
Only the toughest Trainers who have defeated the Pokémon League are permitted to enter the Battle Frontier. The area features five facilities; moving clockwise from the southwest, this includes the Battle Castle, Battle Hall, Battle Tower, Battle Factory, and Battle Arcade. Challengers must win a certain number of consecutive battles in order to progress through each facility. Victors are awarded Battle Points, or BP, in increasing amounts with each consecutive winning streak. Battles conducted here do not award any money or experience, and opposing Pokémon are not recorded in the Pokédex. Certain Pokémon are restricted from participating.
Each facility is run by a Frontier Brain, who may be challenged after winning a certain number of battles. Defeating each Frontier Brain earns the victor 20BP and one of two commemorative prints; a silver print on the first victory or a gold print on the second.
Entrance hall
When you first enter, the six attendants welcome you to the Battle Frontier. The first woman notices your Vs. Recorder, and informs you that first-time visitors must receive an upgrade, called the Frontier Record, to their device so that it may be used in the Battle Frontier. She installs the upgrade; then, as she is best suited to explain general topics, directs you to the other attendants who can explain each of the facilities ahead.
Central plaza
Exchange Service Corner
The Exchange Service Corner consists of two open-air stalls in the central plaza. These stalls offer various vitamins, held items, and Technical Machines in exchange for Battle Points.
Pokémon Scratch-Off Corner
The Pokémon Scratch-Off Corner is located at a third stall just north of the Exchange Service Corner. Visitors may spend 1BP to purchase their choice of three Scratch-Off cards from a group of four: red, blue, green, and yellow. Any three of the nine blocks may then be scratched clear to reveal the Pokémon underneath. If two of the same Pokémon and a Ditto are revealed, Ditto acts as a wild card and is counted as the other Pokémon. The requirements for each of the four current prizes are displayed on the top part of the card; revealing three of the same Pokémon earns the Trainer either a Nugget or three of the same Berry.
Battle Castle
The Battle Castle is located in the southwest area.
Challengers must enter three of their Pokémon, with any high-leveled Pokémon reduced to level 50 and any held items removed for the duration. They will then meet Castle Valet Darach in the hallway, where he gives out 10 Castle Points before leading them to their opponent. Castle Points may be exchanged for certain benefits, like healing a Pokémon or purchasing items for use inside the castle. Challengers must battle seven opponents in a row. In the grand hall, Caitlin sits on her throne above the battlefield where she oversees the events taking place below. Her butler, Darach, escorts people to their battles and hands out prizes to victors.
Castle Valet Darach serves as the Frontier Brain of the Battle Castle. He is first battled after 21 consecutive wins, and again after 49 wins.
Battle Hall
The Battle Hall is located in the northwest area.
Unlike the other facilities, each round includes 10 battles rather than the usual seven. Challengers are first asked to select one Pokémon of level 30 or higher for entry. If it is a different Pokémon from last time, the attendant will warn that they are using a different Pokémon, as Pokémon are used in winning streaks, and if a challenger uses a different Pokémon, the streak will be lost. In a Double Battle challenge, challengers must enter two of the same species of Pokémon. Challengers then proceed down the runway before choosing the type of Pokémon they would like to battle. As the challenger uses only a single Pokémon against a variety of different opponents, their primary advantage comes from many of those opponents' Pokémon being at a significantly lower level. As the challenger wins against each type, that type rises in rank, causing further challenges against that type to increase in level. The challenger's Pokémon are fully healed, they have the option to suspend or retire the current streak as well as save the most recent battle to the Vs. Recorder, then return to the grid selection and can challenge the same type again (unless Rank 10 of that type was just beaten) or a different type, until the round of 10 battles has been completed. Each type begins at Rank 1, and increases to a maximum of Rank 10, after which no further challenges are allowed against that type.
Hall Matron Argenta serves as the Frontier Brain of the Battle Hall. She is first battled after 50 consecutive wins, and again after 170 wins.
Battle Tower
The Battle Tower is located in the northern area.
The middle receptionist offers the Battle Room challenge. Challengers may choose the Single Battle format, with battles of three on three, or the Double Battle format, with battles of four on four. Challengers are then escorted to a Battle Room, where seven opponents in a row must be defeated. After clearing a room, the victor is awarded Battle Points. The seventh and final opponent is considered the room's boss.
Tower Tycoon Palmer serves as the Frontier Brain of the Battle Tower. He is first battled after 21 consecutive wins, and again after 49 wins.
Battle Factory
The Battle Factory is located in the northeast area.
Before entering the Battle Factory, challengers must temporarily leave their current party Pokémon at the front desk. After doing so, they may choose three of six random rental Pokémon to use inside the facility. After winning a battle, a challenger's Pokémon will be healed completely, and they will have the option to continue, rest, retire, or get their most recent battle recorded on their Vs. Recorder. If continuing on, they will have the option to trade one of the rental Pokémon for their opponent's rental Pokémon, but they may not see the Pokémon's status before trading. A Scientist will reveal the opponent's Pokémon before every battle, but tells less and less information as challengers advance.
Factory Head Thorton serves as the Frontier Brain of the Battle Factory. He is first battled after 21 consecutive wins, and again after 49 wins.
Battle Arcade
The Battle Arcade is located in the southeast area.
Challengers must enter three of their Pokémon, with any high-leveled Pokémon reduced to level 50 and any held items removed for the duration. Upon entering the battlefield, a challenger's Pokémon are displayed on the Game Board; the opponent's Pokémon are also displayed when they enter the field. Before a battle begins, challengers must play the Game Board to determine the condition of the battle. This massive roulette machine scrolls quickly through a grid of small boxes, known as Events. The roulette will stop by manually pressing a button, or automatically after 30 seconds. Landing on a dark purple box affects the challenger; landing on a red box affects the opponent. Gray boxes affect both Trainers. Each event will have a different effect; some may lower the opponent's HP, poison the opponent's Pokémon, or speed up the Game Board. The choice may affect the challenger's Pokémon, the opponent's Pokémon, or even the field itself. The board may land on status conditions, weather changes, level changes, Berries and more; it may even land on nothing at all. The initial speed of the Game Board depends on the current round the challenger is in, with higher rounds having higher initial speeds. Every battle is called a Game, with the first battle referred to as Game No. 1. After winning a battle, the challenger's Pokémon will be healed completely, and Trainers will have the option to continue, rest, retire, or get their most recent battle recorded on their Vs. Recorder.
Arcade Star Dahlia serves as the Frontier Brain of the Battle Arcade. She is first battled after 21 consecutive wins, and again after 49 wins.
