The wild Snorlax is still sleeping on the east side of Vermilion City, blocking travel to and from Route 11. It also happens to be blocking the western entrance to Diglett's Cave. To wake it up, tune the Pokégear's radio to the upper-middle part of the grid, then examine the creature to place the device next to it. The Poké Flute music rouses the Pokémon from its nap, and it attacks in a grumpy rage!
Diglett's Cave is a long tunnel that spans nearly the whole region, linking Vermilion City to the east side of Route 2. Like the name implies, the only native Pokémon that can be found here are Diglett and its evolved form, Dugtrio. With the Fuchsia City beach blocked off, it is currently the only way to reach western Kanto.

Visit the house near Diglett's Cave and speak to the man inside. Living out in the wilderness, it has been some time since he has had a visitor. He is happy for the company, and gives out a Nugget to show his appreciation.
Viridian Forest
Viridian Forest
Viridian Forest is a sprawling, wooded area located on Route 2. A natural maze, it is easy to get lost inside.

From the southern entrance, follow the trail to the northwest to reach a Leaf Stone near a lone tree. Jump the ledge and return to the entrance, and this time head eastward. Pass by Bug Catcher Dane to reach TM77 (Psych Up) on a patch of dirt nearby. Turn north and battle Bug Catcher Dion on the east side of the forest. Continue northward through the tall grass, or along the path to battle Bug Catcher Stacey. To the northwest, a Blue Flute can be found on a large dirt patch. Farther north, the path diverges; taking the eastern stairway leads to the forest's northeast corner, where Bug Catcher Ellis can be found running laps. Turn west and zigzag through the trees to find a Dire Hit on the northernmost dirt patch. Explore the dead-end path to the southwest to get a Full Restore, then continue northwestward. Pass by Bug Catcher Abner to reach the northern edge of the forest. Leave the gate to re-emerge on Route 2 and continue north to Pewter City.

Visit the Pokémon Center to find a man who would like to trade Pokémon. He is willing to part with his Xatu in exchange for a Haunter. Haunter can be found on Route 8, while its previous form, Gastly, can be found in Johto's Sprout Tower and Bell Tower.
Pewter Museum of Science
The Pewter Museum of Science is located on the north side of the city. It hosts a range of artifacts and exhibits, with a focus on fossils and other specimens from the Kanto region. The receptionist informs visitors that because the larger specimens have been loaned to other museums, admission is free of charge.
One of the workers, a Super Nerd, can be found near the entrance. He mentions how several meteorites had once struck somewhere near Pewter City. The museum would be thrilled to have them on display here, but the meteorites are said to emit strange energy and cannot be carried away.
Fossil Regeneration
In the smaller side room, another Super Nerd runs the fossil regeneration procedure. Speak to him to hand over one of the seven known types of fossil to be revived. The procedure takes a moment to complete, so leave the building and return a short time later to receive the ancient Pokémon.
The Gym features a rock garden, and has only two optional Gym Trainer battles before reaching the Gym Leader.
Because of their dual typings, each of Brock's five Pokémon take massive damage from Grass-type attacks. Aside from that, Water moves are effective against his Graveler, Rhyhorn, and Onix. Brock likes to dig for fossils in Mt. Moon in his spare time, and has acquired two prehistoric Pokémon in Omastar and Kabutops. Both are vulnerable to Electric attacks, as well.
There is an elderly man standing on a hill on the east side of town. Speak to him, and he reminisces about training in Johto as a young man. Something about you reminds him of his younger self, and he is happy to give you a treasure that he found there all those years ago: the Silver WingHG / Rainbow WingSS. This shimmering feather lets you track down the second of Johto's two legendary birds.
