Torchic is a small, chick Pokémon with stubby, downy, yellow wings. Its body is covered with orange feathers and a fluffy coat of down. There is an orange and yellow crest on its head that resembles a flame. Its two thin legs and short beak are a light brownish yellow, and the feet have three toes in front and one in the back. A male Torchic will have a small black speck on its rear that is not present in females.
Within Torchic's belly, this Pokémon has a flame sac filled with a burning fire. This internal flame causes Torchic to feel warm if hugged. The warmth feels similar to a warm water bottle. As long as Torchic is alive, the internal flame will burn continuously. When attacked, it will shoot fireballs of 1,800 °F (1,000 °C) at its foes, leaving them scorched black. It dislikes darkness, as it cannot see its surroundings. Torchic will follow its Trainer with unsteady steps. While Torchic is rarely found in the wild, it is known to inhabit grasslands. It has been recently seen living in the Terarium of Blueberry Academy.
Torchic sticks with its Trainer, following behind with unsteady steps. This Pokémon breathes fire of over 1,800 degrees F, including fireballs that leave the foe scorched black.
Torchic has a place inside its body where it keeps its flame. Give it a hug - it will be glowing with warmth. This Pokémon is covered all over by a fluffy coat of down.

Torchic often peck at the ground in search of pebbles. Eating pebbles helps it digest its food and makes the flames it exhales even hotter. You could say it’s like feeding two birds with one stone!
In Pokémon GO, Torchic can be obtained by completing 2/6 of the Special Research, Investigate a Mysterious Energy.
In Having a Wailord of a Time, Ash, Max, and Brock were given the task of watching over a Torchic and the rest of the Hoenn first partner Pokémon for Nurse Joy while May was practicing with her Beautifly. Torchic managed to evolve into a Combusken and had to be hidden. However, Nurse Joy eventually found out about this and allowed it to stay at the Pokémon Center.
After being released from a Poké Ball, Torchic is engulfed in flames and burns nearby brawlers. It traps its victim(s), causing a moderately large amount of damage for the duration of its time on the field. Torchic launches trapped opponents as it leaves the stage.
Trophy information
"A Chick Pokémon. It's a Fire-type that has a flame sac in its belly where it produces fireballs reaching 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit--it shoots these out of its mouth. While Torchic is as cute as can be, it evolves into the powerful Combusken when it levels up. It also then becomes a Fire and Fighting combination."

Concept Art of Torchic
Concept art from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire portrays a different Torchic design, with large floppy ears and a flame-shaped marking on the back of its head.
Torchic is the only first stage of a first partner Pokémon that has a gender difference (though its own is very easily missed, being only a one-pixel difference).
It also is in the only first partner Pokémon evolutionary line in which all members have gender differences.
Torchic is based on a chicken hatchling. In particular, Torchic's bright orange coloration is based on painted chicks, which are chicks whose feathers are dyed with paint and are typically sold during festivals and fairs.[1] It may also be specifically based on the basan, a legendary fire-breathing chicken in Japanese folklore.
Torchic's gender difference may be based on vent sexing, a chick sexing technique that originated in Japan, where feces is squeezed out of the chick in order to open its cloaca, allowing the chick sexer to observe whether it has a bump inside its cloaca. Normally only male chicks have this bump.
Name origin
Torchic may be a combination of torch and chick (a baby bird).
Achamo may be a combination of 赤ちゃん akachan (baby) and 軍鶏 shamo (a breed of Japanese chicken once raised for fighting).
