In the anime

A Cover Fossil in the anime

A Cover Fossil appeared in A Restoration Confrontation! Part 1. It was found by Ferris and later stolen by Team Rocket, who—by using the stolen data from Professor Juniper and Fennel's fossil resurrection machine and the stones stolen from the Chargestone Cave—managed to revive it into a Tirtouga. It evolved into a Carracosta in the next episode and was eventually returned back to its own time through a time gate at Twist Mountain.

Main article: Cover Fossil (Noble Victories 90)

The Cover Fossil was introduced as an Item card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game in the Noble Victories expansion, first released in the Japanese Red Collection. It allows players to look at the bottom seven cards of their deck, reveal a Tirtouga they find there, and put it onto their Bench. The other six cards are then shuffled back into the deck.cards are then shuffled back into the deck.

Main article: Antique Cover Fossil (Stellar Crown 129)

The Scarlet & Violet Series saw the release of Antique Cover Fossil in the Stellar Crown expansion, first released in the Japanese Stellar Miracle expansion. This card is unlike the previous Cover Fossil card and more in line with other Item cards depicting Fossils, allowing the player to play it onto the Bench as if it were a Colorless-type Basic Pokémon. It has an Ability that prevents all effects of attacks used by the opponent's Pokémon done to it.

Unidentified Fossil cards are Fossil Trainer cards which become Basic Pokémon. While they do not feature a Cover Fossil, they can still be used to evolve into certain Tirtouga.
