Salvatore is a friendly, optimistic, and loving person. His classes stress the importance of communication to help people understand each other's feelings and deescalate conflict. For example, he describes how after a fight with his wife, he made sure to apologize quickly and express his care for her. In addition to speaking many human languages, he also demonstrates how Pokémon communicate their feelings, with the help of a Pikachu.
In his bond, he finds an injured Pawmi. It's quiet, and he concludes that this is due to the trauma of its injury. He decides to take care of it until it is ready to communicate with its fellow Pokémon again. However, even after its recovery, it is still quiet. He realizes that that is simply the Pawmi's personality, and it is fine as it is. With the player's encouragement, he decides to keep the Pawmi, which causes it to speak up for the first time. He gives the player a GalarianMeowth as a reward for their help.
Upon the third unique interaction with Salvatore in the League Club Room, he will trade an Alolan Meowth to the player in exchange for almost any Pokémon excluding Shiny, Legendary, or Mythical Pokémon.
Salvatore debuted in PASV02. He and several other teachers were called to an emergency meeting by Clavell to discuss Violet, a new student that caused trouble during the Treasure Hunt's opening ceremony. Clavell informed the others of Violet's backstory and explained his behavior.
Salvatore was introduced as a Supporter card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Scarlet & Violet Series (the Japanese Scarlet & Violet Era). It was first released in the Japanese Cyber Judge expansion and the English Temporal Forces expansion, with artwork by Ryuta Fuse. An ultra rare version with artwork by the same illustrator and a special illustration rare version of the card illustrated by Tetsu Kayama were released in the same sets. It lets the player evolve one of their Pokémon by searching their deck for an Evolution Pokémon card that does not have an Ability. Contrary to the normal evolution rules, this card can be used on a Pokémon that was put into play during setup or on the turn this card is played.
Trivia
After Salvatore recalls his Pokémon from battle, he pats the Poké Ball rather than simply nodding at it like many Trainers.
