Trivia
Origin
It would seem that Ponyta, along with its evolution Rapidash, are based on Pyrios, Aeos, Aethon, and Phlegon, the "fiery steeds" that carried the Greek God Helios's Chariot of the Sun around the world each day.
Name origin
Ponyta's name is derived from pony . It may also be partly based on the Spanish word "bonita", meaning "beautiful". It could also be a shortened form of the word ponytail
