Octillery are red cephalopod Pokémon with yellow bumps on their rock-hard heads and yellow suction cups on each tentacle. They possess 8 tentacles, two of them are used for manipulating objects while the other six don't appear to be used as much aside from a stabilizing role. Octillery may be a distant cousin of Gyarados and Milotic, since all three aquatic Pokémon evolve from weak fish-like Pokémon.
Gender differences
Female Octillery have smaller suction cups on their tentacles. The yellow bumps on their head are also smaller.
Special abilities
Octillery is much more powerful than its pre-evolved form, Remoraid, but it happens to be much slower. Octillery's tentacles boast stronger gripping power. It also is capable of using Sludge Bomb, Gunk Shot, Energy Ball, Flash Cannon and Giga Impact.
Octillery grabs onto its foe using its tentacles. This Pokémon tries to immobilize it before delivering the finishing blow. If the foe turns out to be too strong, Octillery spews ink to escape.

Octillery is the only Generation II Pokémon whose name starts with an O (unless you take Feraligatr's, Sentret's, Furret's and Stantler's Japanese names into account (which are Ordile, Otachi, Ootachi, and Odoshishi in that order). The only Pokémon since then to have a name starting with an O in any language is Swellow's Japanese name, Ohsubame.
Octillery is capable of learning up to 12 different-typed moves, discounting Hidden Power. The only type moves it cannot learn are Dragon, Fighting, Ghost, Ground, and Flying.
Octillery's sprite in Platinum has darkened considerably compared to other games. This also happens with Scizor, Wooper, and Quagsire.
Remoraid and Octillery are the only non-legendary, non-Template:Type2 Pokémon to learn Ice Beam naturally that do not gain Ice as a secondary type through evolution.
Origin
This Pokémon is based on an octopus. It also has some basis on a tank.
Name origin
Octillery's name is a combination of octopus and artillery, referring to its many attacks with the "Beam" or similar suffixes. Similarly for Okutank, but with tank instead of artillery.
