Mesprit is a small, gray, fairy-like Pokémon. It has two tails that each have a red jewel encrusted into them. These are, presumably, two of the jewels which complement the Red Chain. Mesprit has a partially magenta face with four long, drooping appendages and another red gem encrusted into its forehead.
Mesprit's spirit can leave its body without dying. Its spirit can return to the body at will. According to legend, it can drain one's emotions away by simply touching it.

Mesprit sleeps in Lake Verity. Once it is encountered, it will run away, wandering around Sinnoh and only traceable with the Marking Map Pokétch app. Mesprit will warp to a new location whenever the player crosses the boundary between two areas except if the player passes through a gate between a city and a route, or if the player uses Fly.

Mesprit is somewhat unique among the members of its trio, as it leaves Lake Verity to roamSinnoh after being found. This is somewhat similar to how Suicune was treated in Crystal Version, although the opposite was true then, as Suicune was the only one of the legendary beasts to be confronted and fought normally while the other two roamed Johto.
Also, in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2, Mesprit is the only one of the lake trio to fight the main character before the end of the main story.
Despite being genderless in the main series games, Mesprit is referred to as a female in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2.
Mesprit shares the same species name with Kirlia. They are both known as Emotion Pokémon.
Mesprit is based after a spirit or a sprite and the color magenta. Mesprit and the rest of the trio could possibly have originated from the Imperial Regalia of Japan, which are also called the Three Sacred Treasures. Mesprit would be the Yasakani no Magatama, which embodies benevolence.
Name origin
The English name comes from the personal pronoun me and esprit (French for "spirit") or sprite. Its Japanese name may come from the Japanese verb 笑む emu, meaning to smile, or emotion, and esprit or sprite.
