The Johto Safari Zone is an area that will make its debut appearance in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. It will be located northwest of Cianwood City, and a previously unknown route will have to be traveled through to get there. The island Cianwood City has been on has been enlarged from Gold, Silver, and Crystal in order to fit that route and the Safari Zone in. It can be costumized so the player doesn't have to walk far to catch specific Pokémon.
It's possible that this area was added to supply Pokémon for now-altered Johto Dex, as it adds a great deal of potential space for different species. In the Generation II Games, Kanto's Safari Zone was closed. If this fact is retained, then the Johto Safari Zone may be taking its place.
