Character profile

Main article: Pecharunt (Pokémon)
Pecharunt pleased with the gifts it received, including the Mythical Pecha Berry.

Pecharunt is a childish Pokémon with a young mind. It will use its power to gain as much attention and love as possible from friends and family. Pecharunt enjoys granting others' wishes and requests in order to receive the affection it craves in return. However, this also makes it a greedy and spoiled Pokémon, determined to have what it wants no matter the cost, even "cursing" its caretakers so they love it even more. Timid and cowardly by nature, Pecharunt tends to flee or cower in fear should its allies be defeated.

Despite these deceptive traits, Pecharunt shows a deep attachment for its retainers and family. It reacts negatively when any of the Loyal Three are used in battle against it, perhaps angered or shocked by their apparent betrayal. It's still a good Pokémon at heart, viewing the ones it brainwashes as its friends, as seen with the Loyal Three. Pecharunt acts mostly out of fear and loneliness, as it is not capable of defending itself very well.

History

Pecharunt being cared for by an old couple

A long time ago, in a far-off region, an old couple cared for Pecharunt, as they had no children of their own, showering the small, timid Pokémon with love. Hoping to get even more of their affection, Pecharunt fed them Binding Mochi, created using the toxins stored in its shell, placing the couple under its control. The Mochi drew out their greed, and the old couple soon began to make constant requests of Pecharunt, which it eagerly followed in hopes of receiving more love. To this end, it used its Binding Mochi and Toxic Chain to tame and transform a small and weak Pokémon who desired strength, Okidogi. The toxins from the chain stimulated Okidogi's musculature, granting it a powerful physique, but also chained it to Pecharunt's will, turning it into its retainer. Pecharunt had Okidogi deliver many gifts to the couple, including several boxes of Mythical Pecha Berries and some clothes, only making their love for it grow.[2]

Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti alongside Pecharunt

Eventually, the old couple requested that Pecharunt acquire a brilliant set of masks, rumored to exist in the land of Kitakami. Having grown tired of the same old requests, Pecharunt was excited to be given a novel task and hurriedly set off to Kitakami with Okidogi. During their travels, the two met a clumsy and dim-witted Pokémon who longed for cleverness, Munkidori. Using the same method it did with Okidogi, Pecharunt made Munkidori its second retainer. With the toxic chain stimulating its brain, Munkidori's psychic powers bloomed, allowing it to see into the near future. Yet Pecharunt still worried, and so it found a third companion, one that had short, dull feathers who wished for beauty, Fezandipiti. The chain not only led it to gain an exquisite appearance and lovely voice, but also gave it the ability to scatter beguiling pheromones that could captivate people and Pokémon. Only then did Pecharunt feel safe, and their journey truly began.

Pecharunt and its retainers vs Ogerpon

The four traveled through fields, climbed mountains, and crossed seas, before finally reaching their destination. After arriving in Kitakami during the Festival of Masks, Pecharunt and its three retainers spotted Ogerpon and its human partner wearing two of the masks. Erring on caution, Pecharunt had Munkidori track down their home in the Dreaded Den at the top of Oni Mountain, then tasked Okidogi and Fezandipiti with quietly stealing the masks while the two were away. Just as they were about to leave, Ogerpon's partner appeared unexpectedly, and a brawl ensued. However, the man could only muster the strength to protect one of the masks, and the two thieves made off with the remaining three. Pecharunt briefly reveled in its victory when suddenly the enraged Ogerpon confronted them. Panicking, Pecharunt ordered its retainers to fight, using its mochi to empower them; Fezandipiti employed its pheromones, Munkidori used its foresight to predict attacks, and Okidogi attempted to end the battle with its raw might. Yet none could stop Ogerpon's advance and, despite their best efforts, the three were defeated and slain. Unable to defend itself, Pecharunt trembled as Ogerpon launched a final strike against it. Using the last of its strength, Pecharunt managed to clasp its shell closed and rolled away deep into the forest, falling into a deep slumber.[2]

Pecharunt being defeated by Ogerpon

At some point, an old lady would find the slumbering Pecharunt and confusing it for a simple decoration, displayed it in her store, Peachy's in Mossui Town. As time passed, the people of Kitakami came to know of Pecharunt as the "Never-Rotting Peach".[1]

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The slumbering form of Pecharunt is first seen on the counter of Peachy's in Mossui Town. After completing the story of The Indigo Disk, the player can obtain a Mythical Pecha Berry, the same kind that Pecharunt used to deliver to its adoptive parents hundreds of years ago, and bring it to Peachy's, causing Pecharunt to awaken. It vanishes along with the Mythical Pecha Berry when the player's back turns away following a phone call from Arven to inform the player about his arrival at their house.

Mochi Mayhem

Brainwashed Nemona defending Pecharunt

Still resolved to grant the old couple's request, and perhaps oblivious to how much time had passed, Pecharunt produced more of its Binding Mochi and left them on a plate at the counter of Peachy's for anyone to eat. Eventually, most of the townsfolk fell under its control, leading rumors to spread about a curse going around Mossui Town.

Penny told the player, Kieran, and Arven that she was startled by something "round and weird". Meanwhile, Pecharunt floated inside its shell above the store. It then opened up and fired several pieces of Binding Mochi at them, aiming directly at their mouths, though it missed Kieran and the player. A battle ensued between the possessed Arven and Penny against Kieran and the player. Upon the possessed duo's defeat, Pecharunt attempted to sneak away and hastily fled towards Loyalty Plaza as Kieran and the player pursued.

As the player and Kieran reached Loyalty Plaza, the two spotted Nemona, who had also been possessed, with Pecharunt floating near her soon after and briefly taunting them. The effects of the Binding Mochi were unable to control Nemona's obsession with Pokémon battles, thus leading to a battle between her and the player. At the same time, Pecharunt directed what appeared to be the rest of the possessed town to Loyalty Plaza, forcing Kieran to stay back and hold them off while the player battled Nemona. Shocked at the loss of the strongest Trainer under its influence, Pecharunt battled the player itself in a last ditch effort to stop them, though it was ultimately defeated and caught. Afterwards, the possessed humans under Pecharunt's control were returned to normal as the Binding Mochi's effect disappeared.

Some time later, back at Blueberry Academy and based on a hunch of hers, Carmine correctly assumed that Pecharunt had something to do with the Loyal Three. Regardless, she concluded that, since they cannot ask the Pokémon directly, it'll likely remain a mystery.
