Talk:Shadow move
??? type, No type, or Shadow type?
Are these moves really ??? type? In the game, they don't have any type symbol at all, rather than having a ??? type symbol... I think they should be listed as having "No type", or at least being "Shadow type" (especially for moves from XD which can actually be super-effective or not very effective.) --Kayube 02:08, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
From Unknown type: "The ???-type does not run exclusively off of the Pokémon's attack stat or special attack stat. This differs from one attack to another." Can someone possibly add which attacks affect which stats on each page? And I also second what Kayube said --Manga-in-a-bottle 11:44, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
STAB
Do Shadow Pokémon receive a Same Type Attack Bonus when using a Shadow-type move? Raylax 08:03, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
No they don't, because "Shadow Types" is not really a type, because Pokemon can only have two types max (ie. water/flying, grass/poison, etc). Its hard to explain, but no, they do not receive a STAB. Also, in XD, shadow moves are super effective against non-shadow pokemon. --Blaziken=Tahu 15:07, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Category of Shadow Blast
Are we sure that Shadow Blast is of type "Special" in Gale of Darkness? I've been playing around with it and it certainly seems to be a Physical attack. It hurts a Shadow Chansey a *lot* more than Shadow Lapras. It does more damage after opponents have been with with Shadow Down. And "X DEFENSE" lowers the damage it does.
I can't compare against Colosseum; maybe it was Special there and Physical in XD? Machinedramon 20:04, 12 September 2009 (UTC) Shadow Blast wasn't in Colosseum, just Shadow Rush. I agree though; it does seem to be Physical. Maybe it's a Physical attack that doesn't make physical contact, like Hyper Beam. --Raylax 20:17, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
4X weakness
Would dual typed Pokémon have a 4X weakness to Shadow moves?
- No, the shadow weakness/resistance attributes are completely unrelated to type. Only 2x weakness and ½x resistance regardless of attacker and target. --Shiningpikablu252 20:11, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Sketch?
What happens if smeargle used sketch on a shadow move? Savelijah 15:56, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- It would most likely fail. While non-Shadow pokemon can use Shadow moves if given to them with a cheating device (source: my XD Party), if they could be Sketched, then the Pokemon could be traded to R/S/E/FR/LG, where the moves do not exist, and would probably fuck your game up. It needs confirmation though. XVuvuzela2010X 16:37, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Well who ever is going to confirm it how about finding out what happens if a ditto uses transform on a shadow pokemon. Savelijah 14:28, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Using transform does work. XVuvuzela2010X 10:26, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Shadow Blast
I've tested it using Counter and confirmed it is a Physical move. I'm testing the rest of the Shadow moves too and so far I know that Shadow Wave, Shadow Rave, and Shadow Storm are Special. BOOXMOWO (talk) 19:13, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
Original Moves
Would it be possible, and, if so, practical, to include the moves on which each of these moves are or may be based? For example, Shadow Blast would have Aeroblast listed. I know that some of these are ambiguous in what moves they were based on, but there are several which are obvious, like Shadow Bolt, which is based on Thunderbolt. For those that are uncertain, the pages mention a few possibilities, like Shadow Blitz, which lists basic moves like Pound, Scratch, and Tackle. - unsigned comment from Kyro-Dizzy (talk • contribs)
