Pokémon Center Nagoya (Japanese: ポケモンセンターナゴヤ Pokémon Center Nagoya), is a Pokémon Center store located in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan. The store first opened in October 2002, and moved to a second location in March 2013.[1] The store reopened in its current location on October 12, 2024.[2] The store includes a Pokémon Card Station.

History

On October 11, 2002, Oasis 21 opened in Sakae, Nagoya, and with it Pokémon Center Nagoya opened for the first time. This was the fourth permanent Pokémon Center store, after Tokyo, Osaka, and New York.

As part of the Pokémon 10th Anniversary celebrations, a Pikachu promo card was given to customers between June 16, 2008 and July 31, 2008, depicting Pikachu and an image of the store.

From October 6 to November 11, 2012, the store celebrated its 10th anniversary. For this, a range of exclusive merchandise based on two artworks was made available; "A Day at the Carnival" and "Blue Sky Parade".[3] There was also a garapon lottery for exclusive goods for every ¥3,500 spent, and meet-and-greet sessions with Pikachu.[4] The first 300 customers on October 6, 2012, also received a free "10th anniversary mini flag".[5]

The original Pokémon Center Nagoya closed on March 16, 2013, and reopened on the 5th floor of Matsuzakaya Nagoya Main Building on March 20, 2013. To celebrate the opening, a shiny Gold Magikarp event Pokémon for Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, was distributed at the store until May 6, 2013.[1] Customers at the store received a Jumbo Pikachu promo card, and those who spent ¥3,000 or more at Pokémon Center stores across Japan between March 20 to April 7, 2013, were entered into a raffle for an exclusive drinks tumbler, A4 clear file or Gold Magikarp sticker.[6] Two waves of commemorative merchandise were also released; the first with the store's opening, and the second on April 27, 2013.[7]

It was announced on July 26, 2024, that Pokémon Center Nagoya would be relocating for a second time, and that the current location would be closing on September 8, 2024. Customers who shopped in the store between August 1 and closing day received one of three "original clear cards", featuring the then store mascots Chikorita, Pikachu, and Fuecoco.[8]

On September 6, 2024, it was announced that the new store would open on October 12, 2024. The store is located on the second floor of the Nagoya PARCO East Building.[2] 600 pairs of people had the chance to attend a "pre-opening" preview of the store on October 11, 2024, and a lottery for admission on October 12 and 13 was implemented to prevent overcrowding.[9] A series of commemorative merchandise was made available,[10] and those who made purchases at the store until November 17, 2024, received a free Celebi coaster.[11]

Gold Magikarp

The legend of the Gold Magikarp

The Magikarp legend of a certain region...

Somewhere, there was a boy who fished an extremely rare Gold Magikarp...
The delighted boy then raised the Magikarp...

The Magikarp, having been raised with love by the boy, was able to obtain the strength to jump higher than all the other Magikarp of the world. at the limit of its training, it learned a normally unlearnable powerful water-type move.

Magikarp, the epitome of a weak Pokémon.
However, because of the boy's love and the hard work of the Magikarp, it became the strongest Pokémon in the region, with no foe that could defeat it...
The resolutely bonded boy and the Magikarp were said to have always lived with happiness.

...The story became a legend, and the 'Golden Magikarp statue' became a symbol of the region.
Wishes that hard work will bring forth good fruits, wishes that one will be able to be fortunate enough to jump high like the Magikarp, those wishes were put into the statue...
