Breeding houses have appeared in a number of episodes in the anime. In Extreme Pokémon, a man by the name of Mr. Shellby and his wife helped take care of eggs at their small home in the town of Eggseter. They also helped to raise the Pokémon when they hatched. It is also where Ash received an egg that eventually hatched into his Phanpy.

A breeding house also appeared in May's Egg-Cellent Adventure. May received an egg from that breeding center which ended up hatching into an May.

In If the Scarf Fits, Wear It, Ash and Co. discover that their friend Angie from Summer Camp is the daughter of the daycare couple, and help her search for a recently spotted 'scarf monster'.

Breeding Houses can be found in Route 5 and Four Island in Kanto (FRLG only); Route 34 in Johto, Route 117 in Hoenn, and Solaceon Town in Sinnoh. If you leave two pokémon in a breeding house, an egg may be produced, with the notable exceptions of Nidorina, Nidoqueen, and all the Legendary Pokémon. Ditto is well loved by daycare owners, as collectors may well leave a Ditto in a daycare basically full-time, meaning plenty of money for the owners!
